Vibration Problems

I have a small vibration problem before doing my clutch. After my clutch the vibration became worse. At 70 MPH the vibration is slight but by 78-80 the dashboard is going crazy but is gone by 90. There is no strange noises happening from the suspension. It feels tight and tracks well down the road. The steering wheel is at around a 1:30 position. But is does track straight. I had the tires balanced but this didn't take care of it. The Ford Dealer is still thinks that the problem is tire related and wants to try rims and tires from another vehicle to see if the vibration goes away. HELP !!!!

Wheels and tires could be a definate, my local Discount Tire has a machine that can check rim and tire for out of round and run out. The other thing it could be is a halfshaft that is screwed up. I know they can cause a feeling like a tire out of balance.

Check out your tie rod ends and balljoints. I have the same vibration and I know that my ends and joints need replacing. It's easy to damage the ball joint boots when removing the halfshafts, which they do when doing a clutch job.

There are other suspension components that can cause vibration too. I'm sure somebody with more experience will chime in and tell you just what to look for. Could be struts, strut mount bearings, sway bar end links, motor mounts and subframe bushings. Motor mounts comes to mind.

Tie rod ends and ball joints were good. I am more leaning towards either a bad cord in a tire or bad CV joints. How would I test a CV joint and were is the cheapest place to get them at ?

i don't know about how you would go about testing one....... (cv joint that is)... and i don't know about cheapest....but o'reilly's is 59.99 + core.... and most parts stores..(i know o'reilly and advance auto does) price match whoever...

My 89 had a bad vibration from 55-70 that felt like the steering was coming loose. Dealer said it was tires and sure enough - no more shakes!
