Anyone else notice that there is a good bit of vibration (rattle) with the woofers in the 12 speaker Sony setup? It seems to be just in the section that the woofers are mounted in right under the rear window, and only with certain ranges of sound, but when it happens it bugs the crap out of me. Reminds me of a hoopty with giant woofers vibrating the whole car, lol.

Anyway, anyone done anything to fix this (other than turn the base way down) or have any experience with something similar?

Thanks,

MilkMan

My buddy has the MKS and has had that same issue. The dealer has re-insulated it a few times.

Yeah, mine does the same. That "thump" then the rattle bugs the heck out of me too. I think the Sony system really does not sound all that great. Maybe because of this problem, I don't know. I want to hear the THX system in the MKS but haven't had that opportunity. I figure someone will switch it out eventually though. Its sad that my Gen 3 SHO sounds better than the Gen 4.:frown:

I think the speakers would sound great without this, it just seems to be that rear deck that vibrates like crazy. I'm going to try and get some dynamat or something like that... I'll let you know if it helps.

Yeah, check out Second Skin Audio. They have a great product and cheaper than Dynamat.

I have this same problem and I hate it. I had my friend sit in the back and hold the headliner plastic by the third brake light and it stopped while he was holding it so I am guessing that's the problem.

My friends BMW did this very badly.. One day I Was looking at his car and noticed he shoved a black rag between the glass and it to stop the vibrating on the window haha.. Stupid way to fix it but hey it took me a few months to notice the rag..

Curious do you have the Sunshade?

That seems to be where my vibration is coming from. If during the musical tract that causes the vibration you go in the back seat and put pressure on the sunshade when it is retracted you might find the noise stops.

My dealer wants to get my SHO in there to figure out a fix

Yes, I do have the power rear sunshade. I need to try that then. Does it make the sound with it in the up position too??

It isn't as bad with the shade up.

I was speaking to the service writer after I posted my earlier comment , he told me Ford now has a bulletin out about this issue.

I've been noticing the vibration in the back as of late.

My previous car was an 05 Lincoln Aviator with the THX system in it and I almost want to say it had better sound than my SHO.

I have the sunshade yes, some of the vibration seems to be coming from it, but not all of it (I don't think anyway).

I'd be interested to hear what your dealer does to resolve it and what the bulletin suggests doing.

Guys go into your radio settings and change the way you hear it.. Meaning there are predetermined settings like Dance, surround ect.. it comes from the factory IIRC in surround and the surround distorts massively.

I forgot what I changed mine to but it sounds better and no distortion... I listen to BPM on xm with lots or BASS, I had to do this on the first day..

Hey back in the Gen 3 days we would tell you to READ the FQUING manual! LOL:laugh_ti:

lol, thanks for the tip, turning the surround sound did help a lot, although I think it lowers the bass level and therefore doesn't vibrate as much. There are no music type (dance, rock etc) settings that I can find on the menu (Sony 12 speaker system) or in the manual.

And I don't see how RTFM applies in this case unless the manual has a statement about the speakers sounding like shit unless you turn surround sound off, lol.

Hey, I just got back from Canada (Montreal where I'm from and have relatives there) with my SHO. Car was amazing on the road. 24MPG average at 74MPH on cruise. Quiet and stable. Cooled seats with massage should be standard on all cars. Fortunately I do not have the vibration problem on my car with a sunshade and the Sony 12 speaker system. I run the system in stereo mode, sounds better to my ears. Have a great trip to the ngreat white north, eh? Go Habs Go!

Kirk is going to be gone for a while and has asked that someone else share the TSB.

send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I will get it to you.

BTW, the TSB involves the rear sunshade and reprogramming the DSP module. It is for cars built on or before 12/9/2009. So if your SHO is newer, apparently this should be fixed already.
