Ok I ran into this again today and being in the bodyshop world this probably bugs me WAY more than it should, but I feel I need to correct it. If you have the really high metallic content black, where is looks like gray glitter all over it, you do NOT have Tuxedo black. That color is called Crystal Black Pearl, Tuxedo black almost looks like a straight black with no metallic in it. The metallic that is it in, it hardly noticeable unless in full sun and you're maybe a foot away from it. I don't know why this bugs me so much, but it does and I just had to set it straight. Rant over <3

Might be different on the explorer, but I have Tuxedo Black. Bought it new with that exact paint code. And it is HIGHLY metallic, but almost has a greenish/bluish metallic to it.

Its actually called Tuxedo Black Metallic, paint code UH

My 2013 was Tuxedo Black. It as obviously metallic in sunlight - had a bluish/greenish tinge to it. On a day with no sun, sure, it wasn't obviously metallic, but even still when you got close to it, it was obvious.

The Tux Black on our paint book shows blue/green/red and they are all visible in the paint when I shoot the sungun on it or pull outside. The "Crystal Black Pearl" version of fords black has a high saturation of silver/gray pearl in it. It certainly is possible they change the name or mix in later years so maybe I'm wrong for the newer (or maybe older). But I had to double check the book to make sure I wasn't going crazy.

Looked up a 2015 SHO color option history...

Looked up other years as well, no Crystal Pearl Black as an option for any year I can find. They had Ebony Black (paint code UA) though, which might be what you're thinking about.F6209b79d3b2d96e51a855a50ed8ed92

The pic is the 2015 options...but if you change years, it does differ a bit. But still no Crystal Pearl Black that I found.

My SHO and ST are both 2013 models. Both are the same color, but have color codes of Tuxedo Black.....

However my SHO looks gray/silver sometimes in different lighting like Got Grip says.....take a look.

Looks black....

Tuxedo Black Metallic on the SHO is NOT the same as the Tuxedo Black on the F-150 and other Ford Models.

My buddy has an F-150 in Tuxedo Black and ours look completely different next to each other.

Mine is a damn Bass Boat, his just looks... Black...

You do have to be careful, as the Tuxedo Black Scratch Repair kits are the F-150 TB not the SHO TB so when everything else sparkles you get a nice line instead.

Hmmmm, interesting that Ford would use the same name and code between the same model year but have different color mixes between platforms...I guess stranger things have happened. I don't have a 2015 SHO to compare to my 2015 XSport so it is likely I am incorrect.

Green gem metallic...:dribble:

I’m Tux black as well, 2014, definitely green/blue/red metallic in the sun. But, even up close on the dark side of the moon it looks all grey.
My 2015 Edge Tux black is exactly the same.

Given the brochure names for the black changes... it doesn’t seem to be a stretch that they changed the fine points of the colors every few years to distinguish the new model. I know Fiat Chrysler Group does that.
