what happens if i just unplug it? will it drive like a non vaps system? seems too sensitive after installing aluminum bushings, in the process of new springs and struts so maybe that will help. Also maybe i should start replacing tie rods and end links.

if u unplug it with the car off or idling, then you will have a high boost in power steering assistance which can be kinda scary going down the road at 60+mph on moderate curves

to sensitive? having non vaps will make the steering lighter then vaps, aka more sensitive, because you have to then put less effort into turning the wheel.

Unless you manage to unplug it while its in low boost, which is what that shotimes article tells you how to do...

I can tell you from personal experience that if you simply unplug the vaps module, you will either wreck or shit yourself (or both, in either sequence) above 55mph. Think driving a driving game car with arrow keys on the keyboard. Yeah, it's like that. Truly terrifying. OTOH, if you disable it while it's in low boost mode, 55mph+ will be fine, but just you try to make a 20mph right turn. If you're not ready for it, you'll end up hitting a pole.

Unfortunately, there really is no happy medium. Medium boost is... ok... but still pretty twitchy at highway speeds, and not really enough for parking lot maneuvering.

One of these days, I need to figure out how to make a potentiometer work with the VAPS module so you can simply dial in whatever boost you want. That would be sweet.

Such a device exists on the Lincoln Town Cars, a 4 position switch on the left of the steering column on the dash. I've seen them at the yard and have been thinking of a way to integrate that into the SHO.
