Well i need to have both of my valve cover gasket changed because of it is leaking oil. Is there any easy way to change the back valve cover gasket without any problems. And about how much should it cost labor wise to fix. Thanks.

It's a little cramped back there. I imagine it would get expensive to pay someone to do it. I did mine last summer. It's a PITA but you can do it if you block out enough time.

It's not nearly as bad as it seems...just leave the lower runners atached to the LIM and remove the plenum. takes about 10 minutes for me to yank a V8 intake, and i've only done it twice.

An important note you may or may not be aware of --

Based on my reading around here v8 replacement valve cover gaskets are difficult/impossible to find. Typically they are reconditioned and reused. So take your time pulling them out.

Im having a hard time myself trying to find valve cover gaskets for my SHO. The only place i can get them from so far is the Ford dealership and its outrageous in prcie which sucks.

Meh...you guys are right. I'm not as familiar with the V8s, but RockAuto sure doesn't have them. Ugh, guess I'm glad I didn't buy that one even though it looked nice. Oh wait....the pull-a-part over here in Mobile off Moffett Rd. has a 96-98 w/ 170k on it...pretty good shape. You might try to go pull those and see if they're in good shape. I pulled the seats out of it.

all i did when i resealed my rear cover..

i took the gasket back off cleaned it, the head surface and the valve cover. then put silicone in the grove for the gasket.. then put the gasket back in the grove, then apply some more silicone on the gasket surface and then reinstall. mine hasn't leaked since and if the gasket is a little beat that helps that also.

I'm going to reseal the entire engine when I replace it next week, I'll do the same trick as ThatShoGuy even with the timing chain cover.

Just changed my valve cover gaskets. While I was there, changed the upper plenum gaskets, installed new plugs and coils from ebay. Get my car back, it's misfiring! The car has 161,000 miles on it. So I had to go back to the garage and have them re-install my original coils...good to go! I was freakin ******. Thought I was doing a good move. I've run the aftermarket coils on my lincoln LS before with no issues. For some reason, I got screwed this time. Anyhow, the gaskets were like $32 for one side and $40 for the opposite from ford. Don't forget to order the o-rings that seal the spark plug holes. I forgot and ordered them after in case it would leak...nothing. So if someone is in need of a set, I'll sell em to you.

I personally like ultra black. Its hard to take apart again at a later date but seals like no other.
