I have a powdercoated intake and powder coated valve covers to put on. Is it a must to do the valve cover gaskets. I didnt even think of it at the time and I'm kinda in a bind with money. I priced the gaskets and they're high. Are they a must when changing valve covers. Probably a stupid question but i would never know if i never asked. Thanks in advance

If you don't replace them and are concerned you could clean them up really well with alcohol and use RTV between the gasket and the head....Although putting the rear one on could be messy.

:) I re-used mine one time,I did replace with new after pinching the rear one installing it on my atx. 2nd time I glued the bottom part of the gasket down so it wouldn't move.Good luck. thumbs_u

Thats true, but there a small ridges that run the length of the gaskets. The RTV sets in the grooves, creating a good seal. When the grooves are worn down, which happens over time, I would imagine the RTV would be less effective. If the gaskets have a lot of miles, just replace them. SHOnut sells a kit of different replacement gaskets for about $145. I know that sounds a bit pricey, but I am sure you could use the others at some point. Good luck in any path you choose.

I like the idea of having a bond between the gasket and the head. Can't say for sure if the silicone would remain adhered to the gasket and head, but if it did, you have a good seal. Thats why I say clean it well with alcohol.
