First off, why in the world did Ford go with a v8 and NOT improve power/performance?????? It doesn't make sense.
Anyways...
My question is this:
From a roll, if I punch it, it will practically throw you back in your seat. But from a dead stop, when I punch it, it doesn't have near the response or punch. Is this normal?

oh yeah, off topic, but... I noticed today... that while at a dead stop on about a 35 degree incline starting out in 2nd gear, when I gave it gas, it acted like I was towing a double wide... it barely moved. I dropped it down to first, and it was fine. (So in "drive" and "1st" its fine). Is this a sign that my tranny is on its way out???????

Yep top end for the most part here. As for the off-topic part, WHY would you even care about starting or want to start in second gear in an automatic car on an uphill incline anyway???

it was an accident. I am just wondering if it is a sign that the tranny is going :(

BTW, (off topic again) :D I occassionally get a groan or a hum (sounds kind like a sticking caliper...when I hit the brake it stops) V8sho.com mentioned a Front Suspension Squeak 96-3-3, I am wondering if this is it. I think turning the wheel (in motion) sets it off. It only does it on occasion. Anyone else have this problem?

I actually noticed the other day that when travelling at slow speeds with the radio off, I notice a slight squeak coming from the outside of the car...I think the suspension has to be lubed up or something. shrug Any ideas?

Are you complaining? Some say I'm nuts others don't have a clue to what I am talking about. I do have a fast, unorthodox home brewed SHO though...

current SHO projects in the works ....

3.98 gears

automatic temperature controlled forced air, brake cooling

faster battery recharge for the 2V single cell that is used in the 14V mod

smaller VAK

electric water pump

dual reading temp OEM gauge, auto cycle between coolant and tranny fluid temps

electric pump powered PCV system

Paul, I'm not talking about you wink

You have come up with some very interesting things and ideas for these cars. I was referring to the guy who started this topic, who evidently didn't do any research on the GenIII SHO that he purchased.

Oil in the gas to **** the bearings is my thought. Getting at those has GOT to be tough thumbs_u
Dkautumna, have you checked your muffler bearings lately?

Whats your problem? This is not the first time you have made negative comments over a post.People like you are what give this forum a bad name. I bit my lip the last couple of times you ran your mouth, but I have had enough. Get over it,man. I am asking questions that I need to know. Whether or not you think they are trivial, stupid, or dumb really doesn't matter. What's it to you? Are you just mad because nobody would buy your gen.3? I think so. I have researched v8 sho.com, (and also posts you made on trying to sell your car. It seems to me you are just venting at me because nobody would buy your sho, for your high asking price.)
I have owned a 1993 Gen.2 and currently own a 1990 Gen.1, and now a 1997 Gen.3. I have also learned a whole lot from this forum, (but I am by no means a mechanic). So I have not bought this car "without researching it" (whatever that means) . A car is a car for crying out loud. Your comments are absurd. Keep them to yourself.
Criticizing someone over the internet (especially for no reason) is truly sissified.

Seems as though no one answered one of the original questions so I will. When you put the gear selecter in 2, it will start in second gear, not first. That is normal and is why it had no power. It is nice sometimes for starting out in the snow though.

Thanks Dave, I just noticed this mess....

its Ford nature in all of thier recent transmissions to do this. Its normal.

Paul, the water pump draws 0 (zero HP)
After we were taling about it, a while ago I finally got to test it on the dyno. cause no gain or loss, but did cause the temp to peg in the hot...

Scared the Schit out of me.. Just an FYI anyway

Kirk, if the dyno SHOed no gain by removing the WP belt then it documents the effect of increased localized temps inside the motor. With no water flow and the engine going to 7k I will guarantee you had localized boiling in the cylinder head. I am sure your knock sensors were working full time and the timing was ******** considerably.

I have put some powerful electric motors designed for driving WPs and have overloaded them. Currently I have found a 90V dc 2 HP motor that will operated at a rpm that I think is good enough when powered by 14V. I would guesstimate this is a 5 hp gainer when used with the VAK which will negate the HP loss from the alternator.

Sorry Jay, miscommunication.

Ian Macoomb:
I'd be curious to see how a V8 will dyno with the serpentine belt removed.
Probably a bit better than if it had a VAK. :)
