V8 ecoboost SHO

I have a 97 SHO I've been pondering the lack of upgrades and thought recently why couldn't I put a gen4 ecoboost turbo on my gen3 now this is just an idea and I was looking for some opinions and insight to it would like to know what others think if it's possible or not

Anything is possible. Trans issues will be your biggest concern.

You would need to take it all. The Gen IV SHO with the 350hp Ecoboost V6 twin turbo is also an all wheel drive system. You would need to replace the entire drive train to have things work well. I like the idea, and am sure with enough money you could make it work. The result would be all sorts of fun. But I suspect it would be very expensive.

Ambitious to say the least, especially considering what Stephen mentions.
I see this is your first post. Welcome! This forum, and the v8 e-mail list before (v8sho.com) have seen many a new sho owner asking about somewhat implausible mods. Nothing wrong with asking, or of pursuing them even (this is the USA after all), as long as you have ample feedback and know what to expect. I can't speak to the technical/fitment aspect of what you propose, but in a nutshell:
You'd be taking a seasoned old Amish-made axe and ripping off the head, breaking the well-cured pitch resin bond, to replace with the latest Fiskar model - a new, lighter one that would require modification of the original shaft, the bond with which would never be as good as the original head . . .
I'd only hope that the new "axe head" (v6 EB) can be obtained without having to sacrifice the "shaft" (Gen4 body) from which it came.; and, I'd hope that you'd have a Gen 3 body that's in near excellent shape inside and out. If so, and assuming you could pull the swap off, you would gain instant VIP access at all future SHO conventions! Might even be able to turn a profit if Mr. Leno attends.

You could get on the v8sho mailing list and see what carter wants for the supercharger stuff he took off his old v8sho and try that route as well. Transmission is always a concern on these cars although I got mine to almost 200k before it needed work. Didn't beat on it much though

Sorry to bother you older S.H.O. owners.

Being this is a custom one off, one may not need the A.W.D. system. The 6F55 has 2 and AWD versions. You may be able to get a 2WD case half and carrier (P.T.U. splices directly to the carrier) and make a FWD version. I don' know if the case 1/2 will bolt up.

I was thinking about this if there is ever a chance that our infamos P.T.U. ever becomes obsolete and no one rebuilds them becase the explode... the 6F55 is prevalent in a lot of v6 applications.

Anywho, just my $.02. I'll go back to my section now.

Hey John - No bother at all, we are here to share information.

When I was fortunate enough to be at the 2010 SHO unveiling event at the Chicago Auto Show, our group was invited to the plant in Chicago where the new cars were to be assembled.
A very cool thing Ford did was take us upstairs to a conference room and basically explain to us what a 2010 Ecoboost SHO was going to be.
They said the engine had gone through rigorous CAFE testing and in their opinion the lower end was good for 500 hp for 100,000 miles. They had a problem, however, with using all the potential they had. It was the front wheel drive tranny. In 2wd format it was plain unacceptable. To bump the power they went with the AWD setup to tolerate the higher output desired.
It still wasn't enough. Evidence the RWD F150's out there that went to over 400# Tq and do well.

If one was to hook a 3.5 Ecoboost to a standard 2wd, FWD tranny, the results I would expect would be BOOM. And not in a good way.

I agree with Eric. From what I have read of the 3.5 Ecoboost, it is likely best to stick with the AWD structure.

I didn't get too detailed to check transmission and drive train but there was a E/B at Carlisle Ford Nationals last week.

I swear I can not make this up. 3.5 E/B in.....wait for it...…….1970ish (Early 70's) Ford Maverick. The concept is there but I would not be wanting to tote that bill.

As to the AWD/2WD scenario...my 2015 Expedition has the same E/B as the SHO...granted a much higher torque curve but works fine in a 2WD.

No the car and the truck are different. The truck has forged internals. The turbos are different between The two. The trucks have twin independent (intake and exhaust) varible cam timing. The cars have variable intake cam timing.

I'm also not certain in the truck heads will work on the car block.

What I think he was talking about was putting the turbo from a eco boost on our v8. I have thought about this in conjunction with a super charger setup like Carter fuji had on his. Forged internals. Custom cams. Custom headers. Get rid off the automatic. Aluminum radiator. 2oo pound an hour injectors from fuel injector clinic. Port and polish the heads and. A custom intake and then have it tuned

Depends on your amount of disposable income (and I mean DISPOSABLE) and your attachment to the car. For me, I'm up a creek since the first is very low, and the second is very high. Contact E1 above on this thread. He can give you an eyeful on the road on which you seek to travel. You mention Carter, and I believe Eric and Carter collaborated on both of their projects. I'm sure there have been others since, but Eric is still in the mix and accessible.

Yes thats exactly what im talking about and i know itd be expensive but if done right would make one heck of a beast atthe track or even on the streets

Whats ironic about you mentioning this is my dad passed away in February and he had a 70 maverick which is now mine

I've been told a engine is capable of 2.5 how per cfm
