I have just successfully completed my first V8 cam weld here in San Jose, CA. John Stoessel in Los Angeles does an excellent job in Socal, but I'm now capable of doing welds for you Norcal folks. I take the cams out and have them tig welded by S&S Welding, San Jose. I supply the correct 1/16" dia. ER308L rods for the job. Each cam is welded in three spots evenly distributed.

The pic below came from a car with 155K miles on it. The sprockets were already showing a tiny but noticeable amount of movement. Adjusting valve clearances at the same time is a breeze with the cams removed.

If you are interested, please email me at [email protected]

I look forward to hearing from you.IMG 20170213 123242974 HDR 640x360

If done carefully, there is no real need to remove the cams to do the welding, thus making it all a much simpler and less costly operation. But if you want to remove them, sure no harm in that either.

Agreed. I think I know a good Tig welder that can make house calls. In this case, the timing chain cover was leaking and needed to be resealed anyway. On the downside, adjusting valve clearances is a lot more difficult.

Yeah. The 3.4L Rotunda tool kit has a couple valve service goodies that one can surely appreciate.
