All:

I am in the middle of upper maintenance, and got to the point of pulling the old plugs. They were carbon fouled but the interesting thing was that the electrodes were very eroded to a gap of .55 or greater. Even stranger, the front bank plugs were eroded on the insulator end; the back bank plugs were eroded from the arm. The difference in erosion seems odd as though the current flow differently or something wacky. This is all FYI.

The back valve cover was extremely tough to get off the motor b/c of a lack of clearance from surrounding wires and junk (it was a pita). Is anyone aware of anything I need to be careful with that is not general known, or have any general comments when doing the top maintenance? Does anyone tear apart the intake manifold to clean the inside? The runners have mucho carbon buildup near the injectors.

thanks

Yes, the rear cover is a PITA because of the wiring harness back there. Be extra carefull not to "roll" the rear valve cover gasket. I did, even thought I thought I was carefull. Sounds like its a good thing you changed the plugs. It is not uncommon at all to disassemble the intake and give it a good cleaning. You will need new gaskets though.

Good luck
