Hey guys, its time for me to get a new radiator. mine has a small hole in it, and on top of that the car likes to run hot all the time. with the a/c on, it will most likely cook the motor. on top of that, im gonna need much better engine cooling when i put my turbos on, so i wanted to get an all aluminum radiator that will cool better that stock. someone said soemthing about a gm/chevy radiator from pepboys. all input is appreciated, thanks. and heres a link to a radiator i was looking at getting

The stock radiator provides the SHO with a surplus of cooling capability. If your engine is running hot, there is something else wrong. The hole will prevent the system from pressurizing to 16 pounds, so you definitely need a new radiator. Was the old radiator plugged? Flush time. How is the thermostat working and how old is it? Is it a Motorcraft or cheap replacement? Is it the proper temperature setting? The 3.0L uses a 180F (82C) and the 3.2L uses a 190F (88C) t-stat. Is your coolant temperature sender putting out the proper voltage?

Turbos? Better ask a few folks in the Forum about turbos on the SHO. I'll let you figure that one out.

the hole is so small that it barely leaks, and never leaves any coolant on the ground. the thermostat ive used was the ford rev.b thermostat for the 3.0, and i changed it to the cheaper ones that was a 170 degree thermostat to see if that made a difference. the only thing i havent had a chance to do was to change the temp sender or to check the voltage. but, im also using an autometer guage that reads 210 almost all of the time unless the car hasnt warmed up.

210, that's a typical operating temperature for a modern vehicle. 180 or 190F thermostat shouldn't make any difference in the final normal operating temperature as long as the rest of your cooling system is operating up to *****.

My temperature gauge sits at the thermostat opening temperature (180F - "L" on the gauge) unless I am stopped for a while without the A/C on. 210F is high for a healthy 3.0L SHO cooling system.

Is your radiator fan operating? Turn the climate control to AUTO (or anything but OFF, VENT or FLOOR) and the fan should run continuously.

ok the radiator fan does work, i hear it cycling on and off normally once the car warms up, and it does go on continuously when the climate control is on. i do however have a 3.2L bolted to my MTX trans. it shouldnt make a difference. I really just think that the radiator needs to be replaced. I was just curious which model radiator to get in an all aluminum version, that would fit in the sho with little or no modification other than say a support bracket or something. As i wrote earlier, someone told me that one from a gm/chevy would fit, and the dimensions of the radiator i saw were 19x31. i havent had time to measure the radiator in the sho yet.

I have a radiator sitting in the garage. I'll measure it when I get a chance...

that radiator would not fit due to the filler neck location and no provision for coolant overflow. If you want a 2-row, get the modine 2 row replacement for the 3.8 police taurus. It's about that price from Napa, and comes with a lifetime warranty. It's what I have in mine, and never ceases to keep the car cool.

ill have to check on that modine radiator, is it all aluminum? i noticed you have dual 12" permacool fans... are they low profile? im gonna need all the space i can get once my turbos go in. that ebay radiator does have an overflow provision, it has a threaded hole, and i would just need to screw in an npt ****** fitting to connect to the overflow bottle, but now that i look at it, the need seems to be too short.
