It helps gain a few more horse power and allows for higher revving. So yes it helps.

Mine came with the UDP so I never had the chance. Most people say they do.

Rehashing what I've heard and read . . .
If you were to look at dyno results before and after UDP installation, you'd see a slightly steeper slope for the UDP run.
