When I do the 60k on my SHO this summer I was thinking about replacing the valve seals. I haven'ty heard about anyone else doing this when doin the 60k.

I have only had experience with one engine and judging from that I could replace the seals when I do the valve adjustment without taking anything else apart correct?? I just need to be careful not to drop a valve in the cylinder.

I have been using about 2 quarts of oil inbetween oil changes and want to fix the problem...I am assuming this is it. I am assuming the seals are shot because of age...not mileage as the car just turned 100k. It sat for about 4 years...so... shrug

I am also wondering what kind of experience people have had with the remanufactured water pumps. Mine isn't leaking, but I don't want to replace it 2 months after I do a 60k. Are the reman ones of decent enough quality to make it 60k without any problems? shrug

Another question...I haven't heard much about the ceramic throwout bearing lately...I know one faile prematurely. However I am wondering if its worth the extra $$ to put that in with the stock clutch kit...or just the original throwout bearing that comes with it. shrug

I heard that the reman. waterpumps don't last that long 1-2 years. They are cheap though. I would go with the ceramic throwout bearing if you have the $$$. I have never done valve seals but i am interested in that becuase i have an extra set of heads i am going to throw stage 2 cams on and i want them perfect when i install them. Good luck.

yes, go with a reman pump, they carry a lifetime warranty at most places.
Who cares about a lifetime warranty. Buy a new one, its got peace of mind. Ya it costs extra but do you want to take apart the motor again in 2 months???

I doubt a remanufactured pump would die at 2 months. All the key components, the bearings and seals are replaced with new. On the other hand I DO feel safe and secure with my brand new Ford water pump that I installed back in September. And a brand spanking new Ford water pump on the shelf that I practically stole from a seller off of ebay for $40, just in case. :D

To access the valve seals you must remove the camshafts. That is an entirely different service than the valve gap adjustment. To remove the camshafts, you must also remove the entire front of the engine down to the rear timing belt cover and then remove the camshaft bearing caps.

And of course, this is assuming you don't drop the valve into the combustion chamber.

With the engine toolkit you get MOST of what you need to do the job. You'll still need a metal rod to pivot the valve spring compressor, and a slide hammer to get the seals out.

Oh, and the retaining clips are small and a bitch to work with, without a second pair of hands.
