This is the second occasion. What will happen is when I just start the car and get to the end of my road and put the turn signal on to turn right, I get no signal at all. So I tap the sterring console and they go on. It didnt happen again for about 1 month. Well it happend again so I did the tap again and they went on.

I had this problem a while back...its a faulty multi-function switch. You can pick one up on ebay for like 15 dollars sometimes.

True, true. I know a guy who has one that's for sale. I'll send you his email addy via PM.

Edit: It could be also though that your stalk connectors need to be cleaned...

FWIW, a new aftermarket multi-function switch is around $45 at most auto parts chains and is IMHO the best solution to fix it right once. It seems to me that the pre-mid-'95 stalks all eventually wear out, and to replace a bad one with a used one is just postponing the inevitable.

I agree, the cost of a new one is not that much. I paid $40 for a OEM unit from FPN for my '93. Why put on a used one and maybe have to deal with it again in the near future.

Takes about a 1/2 hour. Hardest part is taking the ignition cylinder out and if you have done that before it only takes a minute to do that.

To remove the ignition cylinder you need a small diameter allen key.

1. Disconnect the battery
2. Put the key in run
3. Under the key is a hole, push up with the allen key, then relaease pressure
4. Pull key and cylinder out

Then

5. Remove the three screws from the lower steering column shroud

6. Remove the two torx screws which hold the MFS in place.

7. Remove the two electrical connectors.

Reverse to install.

Since these stalks must have an inherent flaw in them somewhere, can one from a newer model vehicle be used? For example, a Gen III stalk? I know they're shaped a bit differently, but is the wiring and connectors the same? If they are, I'll just replace mine with one of those, since my turn signals also stop working from time to time. shrug

Gen 3s aren't any better. The high speed wipers don't work on my '97. The real problem is the grease that is used on the contacts internally. You can disassemble the stalk and clean it.
