I don't know about owned. But he did get the point across.

Hope I did not come across harsh or anything Chris, certainly not my intention. Feel free to bash my bro anytime, as I enjoy doing so! :D

Really? Have you done it? No. So don't make general comments like that.

anybody can slap a turbo on a car, but how long will it last? SHOBOOM within a few days.

Ready for my short generalization?

Motor Build $2400 done right (forged pistons cost $1200)
Trannybuild/Quaife $2000
Tuner $500

Well theres $5000 right there. Wheres the rest of it? Turbo, piping, intercooler, not to mention all the custom rewiring athat will need to be done. Along with building the rest of the car to handle it. Your looking ATLEAST $10k in the motor/tuning/turbosetup alone.

Please don't try to argue this point with me as I and many other know better and will continue to prove your point wrong.

Giddyup, if you really wanna do this start saving now. BTW is your car an MTX?

No more caffeine for you tough guy.. :thumb:

Okay guys, Stop it! Yeah, to do it perfect is expensive. To have someone else do everything (or anything) is going to be expensive.

If it's your daily driver, don't do it. It's going to be expensive.

But if you want to have fun, do it yourself. PD Harley put a stock 3.2 in his buggy, built his own collector pipe, put in a bushing turbo ( T-3/T-4), found an intercooler off of a SuperCoupe and it runs like a cat with its' tail on fire.

Turbo= 600.00
Intercooler = 200.00
pre-bent piping= 100.00
pop-off valve 250.00

Granted, he works on big rigs for a living and knows how to work with his head and hands. But if one man can do it, so can another. These cars are a challenge to work on when they're stock and with forced induction, things get complicted real quick. But hey, we're all just passing through, no one's permanent here, and life is NOT a spectator sport.

I slapped a turbo on my Toyota powered rail and am running 6 psi on stock everything. No intercooler. No problems.

I say go for it, and make some mistakes and have some fun. Blow up some cars and melt some things. They will be telling the stories around the campfires for generations. That's what life is all about.

Where can you get teh forged pistons from ? JE told me they could make me a set for about 800 including the modifications to drop the compression ratio. they'll even do the calculations for me. As far as the rest of the engine, what is important in the turbo/supercharger applications? Any other weak areas?

In my opinion those that haven't done it and say how expensive it would be to do sound just as foolish as those that haven't done it and say how cheap it would be to do.

The only two people in this thread that can speak from experience are Tim and Jeremy.

I absolutely guarantee that you can have a custom single turbo setup designed and installed on an SHO for under $5000 by a professional shop. I can give you the names/phone numbers/websites/what have you, of two shops with tons of experience that both quoted me $4500. And they are both within an hours drive of me. I am sure that there are plenty of others out there.

That does NOT include rebuilding the motor, or beefing up the driveline. I am not sure what they would plan to use for engine management, but a TwEECer or equivilant would probably be a good investment. As far as the motor rebuild, if you kept boost mild and your existing engine is in good shape I do not believe it would be neccesary. I am pretty sure that more than one person has run a decent amount of supercharged boost on stock internals.

I could keep going, but it has all been said before. Over and over again.

Chris,

No, you haven't turboed your car and I don't beleive you've rebuilt your motor. Fred is doing that from what I've heard. Drop the I'm holier than though attitude with everyone... please.

Since when did I ever say I was holier? Or since when did I ever give off the attitude?
I figured you would know me better.

I was just stating the fact. Not once did I ever say that I was turboing my car, nor how much the turbo would cost. I know how much it will cost to build the motor to handle that sort of power. Yes, Fred is building it, for two reasons, one I am 1000miles away and two, even if I was home I wouldn't have the time. I simply replied to what it costs, not HOW you build it. Afterall Fred isn't paying for it. I am.
