Hey guys,

Does anybody know of a shop in town that could diagnose a problem with a turbo thats 3 months old, bought new and has already failed. Its for a friend who has a Mercury Capri and he's an aircraft mechanic, he installed it, didn't run it hard and was doing 1,500 and 3K mile oil changes by directions from the manufacturer but he's looking for some info from a shop in town thats willing to talk. The car has been running great for the last few months and the engine is new, belts and many other things are all new.

Have him to call me or bring it by before I leave. 602-791-2306 I have to jack with turbo's all day long. But they are real big ones.

Chuck,

My buddies name is Gordon Hurtt and he is an aircraft mechanic at US Airways and he will try to catch up with you. Thanks for the help.

Virg,

If Chuck can't help him out, have him call me or post more about what is wrong. I've dealt with a lot of turbo's in off road cars.

Tom,

The latest word I got from him was it sounds like the shaft destroyed itself and it's only been in car since maybe November or so. I'll keep you posted when I get some new info.

Poor oiling and/or cooling or a bad balance job on the original build. I know THE turbo supplier/rebuilder for Garrett turbos. He's the 2nd largest in the US and he lives in northwest phoenix.

Thanks Tom,

I'll pass that bit of info on to my buddy. He's a good mechanic and I found it hard to believe he was having problems that didn't appear to be his fault. I guess things happen to the best of us.
