Maybe instead of telling someone they have a boost leak based off fuel trims, if their wastegate isn't pinned to 100% just tell them they have an issue with their fuel trims and you can't proceed until that is fixed. When you tell someone they have a boost leak, first instinct is that this guy must know what he's talking about so I must have a boost leak. At least then you aren't sending them down the wrong road.
I wouldn't even bring it up just based off my situation 2.5 years ago, but I know someone else that got the same response not too long ago so it's clearly still an issue. Over the last year I've seen at least two people fix their high fuel trims by replacing the pressure sensor on the fuel rail. Maybe that is the issue, not sure I'd even tell anyone that but maybe point them into doing further research into that.
We state they have EVIDENCE of a boost leak or other issue. If they do a pressurized system check and it holds, then that eliminates that and we address other potentials. 90% of the time it's a boost leak caused by a loose coupler or a failing bypass valve, and it's a quick check that can be easily resolved if found.
Unfortunately there isn't much we can do if they decide to leave our tuning support as a result of their mechanical frustrations. We offer as much insight and support as we can, but if we list off the top 30 reasons for elevated fuel trims and plummeting fuel pressure off the bat, then they get overwhelmed and don't know where to start. Mechanics are expensive, and unfortunately most enthusiasts aren't very mechanically inclined, so we try to start with the most common reasons before we ask them to remove the intake manifold to check/replace sensors. Typically a failing FRPS will have other identifies, as when the vehicle is on decel and commanded fueling drops to 1 MPA the FRPS will continue to return a value of 3-5 MPA, which is obviously not correct since there is no fueling demand on decel.
Not everyone agrees with our tuning style, and many customers just want a "set it and forget it" tune these days, and we understand that, but we can't in good faith let someone beat on their car while it's having issues, whether it has a performance impact or not. Every tune is done start to finish the same whether you are in our facility or across the world. It's worked for thousands of customers over 15 years, and helped us to discover and correct many issues that other tuners can't be bothered to address.
