Hello
I put an earlier thread that I had bought a used sct x3 with livernois tunes on it. I got lucky and codes must have matched because tuner worked just fine on my car. Cant bet the price paid 230 bucks for the tuner and it has the tunes already on it. I have it on stage 3 right now and I love it. Not only is there a huge power increase at WOT but I picked up 2 mpgs(thats how I justified it to the wife). Heres the thing though its a sct and it has stage 4+ on it. I emailed the seller assuming it was a error and he said no its a sct with stage 4+ on it and sent me copies of his emails with livernois who confirmed they had placed stage 4+ on his tuner although there website says it cant. question is I haven't used it as on the livernois website it says for stage 4+ "Use at your own risk". I am nervous to use it if they are giving that type of warning and my car has 70,000 miles. Any input on this Anyone eles seen at sct x3 with stage 4+ before? The emails are right from livernois and they say this is the stage 4+.

The tunes have evolved over a period of time. Yes, many of us had SCTs tuners with the 4+ tune. It may not be exactly the same as the 4+ they use now with the MyCal device but it is an excellent tune. I ran that tune from January of 2013 until just last week when I finally got a MyCal and the newest 4X/3bar tune.

The 4+ tune you have is an excellent high performance daily driver tune but you must run 93 octane or higher. It is fortunate that your car had the same strategy code as the previous owner of the tuner. If you like the stage 3, you will love the 4+.

Thanks!

I was hoping for a reply just like that. Talked me into it putting the 4+ tune in. Excited love stage 3.

The only Stage 4+ tune on an SCT programmer that I know of is a few years old. The old Stage 4+ evolved into and became part of the Stage 4 on the SCT before last summer sometime. The new Stage 4+ was introduced with the MyCal last summer, and is completely different. The Stage 4+, like any of the lesser tunes can be had in 91 or 93 octanes. Here is a graph that was done on my car with stock, SCT Stage 4 and MyCal Stage 4+. All with 93 octane. You should be able to actually read the strategy codes on you car and on your tuner. If they happen not to match I would not use the tunes on there. It may be close enough to work but you may be taking a big chance if they aren't exactly the same.

To take it a little further, I am worried for you redbusah. I would never use a tune on my car that I didn't get directly from the tuner, made for the strategy code I retrieved from my PCM and know exactly what octane should be used.

You have me scared now. I have emails from livernois to the previous owner. It says it's a 93 octane tune. I have driven the car 200 miles and had no issues at all car is driving strong and smooth. Should I untune it? I thought if it's tuned it's tuned didn't know the stratedgy code could change the tune it's self. Car is driving excellent at stage 3 right now. Any input from anyone. Should I untune the car?

I would go back to stock. Try to read the Stategy codes on the car and on the tuner itself. If they are a match, that's great. Hopefully you are using 93 octane anyway. (Only a slim chance that there is a 100 octane tune on there. The tuner will only give a brief description of the tune. Like Stage 3/91 or Stage 4+/93. Something like that. I will PM you now.

OK! I think we got it figured out. redbusah may be one lucky guy. He is going to read the Stragegy code on his car. Then send a email to LMS requesting the Strategy Code that was used for the original set of tunes. He is probably okay but he'll double check just to be sure how lucky he is. This is the first time I've heard, in well over a year that somebody was lucky enough to get a loaded SCT with a matching code. Way to go rebusah!

Get a 3Bar MAP sensor ($60 shipped) and get the updated tune for it. Guys are running 12.7 at 110 with it, not shabby for a tune only luxury boat!

The original owner should get free tune updates, maybe he can request it? Hopefully LMS doesn't want $200 from you.

Unfortunately, he'd need to get the MyCal coz the updated tunes aren't for the SCT :(

Does anyone know how many different strategy codes there are for given year? I was under the impression that the OP confirmed his code was the same as the previous tuner's car. In re-reading his post, I now see he says "must have matched." DJE624 was wise in recommending he confirm the correct codes.

The old 4+ tune on an SCT device is a great tune. My MKS would consistently knock off 0-60 in 4.2 seconds using that tune. It has torque management so the shifts are smoother than the old stage 3 but still quick and firm. That tune also has very nice throttle response - especially from an idle. If the OP has matching strategy codes, he got a super deal.

Ok so I checked the tune codes to mine. The last 3 numbers are different I had no idea this mattered. I am used to Cobb tuners and it made no difference. My car has been running excellent excpecially trqnsmission with the tune. I will go back to stick to be safe but if there was an issue wouldn't I have seen it by now. I have logged 500 miles since tune and car is running excellent. Will return to stock later today. Thank you to everyone who has gave me input and any further input would be apprisiqted. Thanks

My 2012 was reflashed sometime before I purchased it, cause when I went to the FORD service dept to find out when the 3/36 end it should the original strategy code, and the one I sent LMS is different. Depends if you ever had to have the ECU reflashed by FORD, then I think the code changes.

Put in calls to Livernois and to Torrie @ Unleashed. But returning to stock in the meantime would be safest.

Got a call from livernois

Livernois just called me. They said they have fail safes built into there tunes. He said there tunes either download and work it do not. He said I have nothing at all to worry about and I am safe to run the tunes. He said if there was a problem when I put my car into drive it would shut off as they made fail safe measures

Tha ks

Well then, I guess you're good to go. I guess some different strategy codes use the same tune. If they didn't want to sell you new tunes, I would take that as a "you're safe". I'm glad you checked though.

That is great news. I didn't even know if it would start and run if the codes were substantially different. Get that 4+ in there and you will have a smile that will not go away without major surgery.
