Hey everyone, new to the sho scene and have a question. I know it's been gone over a hundred times. What's the best tune a guy can get. I'm leaning towards gearhead. But I've heard good things about AJP turbo. Any insight would be great, also what does AJP cost? Thanks

AJPTurbo is Brad. I have only worked exclusively with him. His tunes are amazing. I cannot express enough how much I enjoy all of the tunes he has provided me.

I cannot answer directly to how much he charges now. However from what I see they are market rates. You will need a tuning device, and you will need to learn how to datalog. This will help you understand what it going on, and you will be able to learn cool stuff.

Gearhead is good too. I personally have never used one of Matt's tunes, however many people have and like them.

AJP Turbo Tuned here with Brad on e30 and 93, both are great tunes and I often find myself leaving in the e30 tune. Otherwise GH is an awesome route to go since you won't be pigeon holed into using a specific fuel and still offers great power as well.

Ajp is good. Go to gearhead if you want auto octane, only one i know that still uses the ford knock sensor system for knowing the octane. Stay away from LMS, dont be tempted. Im sure he will pop in, but stay away. I still have a tune from them and i can make a video on what their tunes do, even on new engine and turbos.

I use both and can't say enough about AJP and Gearhead! I have full bolt ons running E30 FYI.

AJP is the tune I run for all out performance as the car just rips!

Gearhead is my daily tune as the transmission tuning is AMAZING! Also, Matt brings the boost on earlier which helps out with the daily driving having the torque available wherever/whenever!

Both tuners have their unique tuning abilities and preferences but its all up to you and what you prefer.

I've used all but BCB and SSI, top two for me would be Gearhead and AJP. Gearhead has the edge on smooth as silk shifting while AJP will probably be a bit faster.

I have multi tunes with AJP and just put in GH e30 tune. I also haves a few LMS tunes but AJP is my favorite and GH is a very close second. LMS lets just say I wont be running their tunes anytime in the future.
IMO I would go with a livewire TS and AJP or GH 93 tune with 3 bar and plugs. This is the best bang for the buck. if you don't have E85 available to make E30

Maybe it's just because I'm still on whatever cheapo oil was in my car when I bought it, but I've found for months now that GH's tune gives me consistent, repeatable, horrendous knock retard (>5) at low RPM's. Commanding 1.7 load at <2500 rpm when the factory limits it to 1.0 just seems flat out dangerous and reckless as this is exactly how you end up with conrods sticking out your block. At this point I haven't deciphered whether it's regular knock or LSPI, but one thing that you can guarantee is GH will blame your gas. Well, I've probably hit 20 different 93 octane pumps from all brands, with no relief. I'm taking matters into my own hands and activating my new Advantage III as I type this.

Update: So even SCT's base tune has super high LSPI limits, so my concerns there are probably not valid. At any rate, GH was a good start for me and I don't think you'd be disappointed. For me personally, self-tuning was ultimately a must and I'm stoked to finally have the tools in hand.

Change your oil. That plays a big impact on LSPI. Also there numerous threads of wiring chaffing causing false knock. With all of the invaluable knowledge you spew on this site it is completely ridiculous that you open with a statement about the cheapo oil in your car.

Still trying to figure out why your SHO still doesn't do burnouts?

StripSho before you go off on some diatribe.......take a gander.

https://www.motor.com/magazine-summary/resolving-low-speed-pre-ignition/

Pay very close attention to this......

No Simple Fix

“LSPI is not a simple problem,” explained Thomas Briggs, Jr., manager of engine systems research and development at Southwest Research Institute (SWRI) in San Antonio, TX. Briggs led SWRI’s Pre-ignition Prevention Program team that includes industry partners (GM, Ford, Honda, Infineum International, Afton Chemical and others) that began investigating LSPI in 2011.

“When the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber, it dilutes the oil film lining the cylinder,” Briggs shared. “This fuel dilution reduces the surface tension and viscosity of the oil, causing an oil-fuel mixture to accumulate in the upper reaches of the piston top land crevice. The mechanical energy of the upstroke during compression pushes droplets into the combustion chamber, where they vaporize and can auto-ignite prior to spark ignition and subsequent engine damage.

If you have whatever oil in your car, and you have put a bunch of miles on it.....I guarantee that your oil is heavily saturated in fuel. Couple that with the bolded statement above you are only doing yourself a disservice and being border line negligent while reporting your tune is causing the issue. Flash back to stock, and see if you are still getting crazy knock. If you are, then look for wire chaffing and change your oil. I suggest Castrol Edge.

For the recond, even after 3k miles the oil in my SHO smells heavily of fuel. Being on E30 I see almost zero knock anywhere in the LSPI danger zone or across any acceleration band. My load is also higher than yours. I have confirmed no wire chaffing, and good oil in my car.

Just ask yourself why would he be ignored the first place, and you might get the idea that there's a pattern. Or i could just dig up the post where he brags about getting off on trolling me specifically.

I'm just offering my unprofessional perspective of my experiences, like everyone else. But he wants to, for like the 3rd time, try to invalidate my opinions by rehashing his own delusional misinterpretation of an old question on wheelspin. Yeah, super helpful!

And for the record my SHO is one of four cars I drive, and I'd be amazed if I've even put 3000 miles on it since purchase. Yet, I just ordered my Amzoil signature series yesterday anyway. How negligent!
Dude just take a chill pill, he messes with you because he knows you're the type of person who is going to get your ******* in a bunch over a comment on from a random person on an internet forum.

I mess with him because he cannot control the stupidity that races out of his fingers onto his keyboard. He regularly posts stupid unfounded crap just like his original post in this tread. So I smack him with a truth stick back with facts, and he can't handle it. So he resorts to to his usual antics of whining and crying.
