Hello SHO'ers,

The trunk struts on my 2013 SHO have gone bad. I have been searching amazon but they all say "without spoiler". Does this really make a difference? Can someone link me what they think the proper part would be? Thank you all so much!

From fordparts.com, hope this link works: http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/P...&search=true&year=2013&make=Ford&model=Taurus

Says "with spoiler". Base part # is 406A10

Search for "Liftgate Support"

I actually bought these off of eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-REAR-TRUN...ash=item25adac5f30:g:eikAAOSwQTVV-FXP&vxp=mtr

NOW they say "not with spoiler" - didn't at the time. But were strong enough to hold the truck lid open, and give it some resistance on the way down.

If I had to do it over again, I would have warranteed them (they leaked their guts after 2 years), but didn't feel like taking basically a day off of work to get 5 minutes of work done.

And for $80/pair as opposed to the $35 or so the (almost) useless ones I found on eBay - would have easily gone to Ford and bought them.

I have found OEM or Sachs to be the best replacements in general. Sachs I trust esp since they have made OEM parts for Ford before. I looked into AMS, have not had the chance to try their products yet. Strongarm & other brands - ended up replacing them pretty quick.

Great info here. My trunk lid struts seemed to fail suddenly. Went to the grocery store and loaded up the trunk with no issues. Went to unload at home and had to hold up the lid!

Does anyone happen to know what section of the workshop manual covers this replacement? I can't find it anywhere. I have the 2011 workshop manuals, Volumes 1 & 2.

probably 501-03 - Body Closures, under Body
I thought the same thing, but it just covers removing the trunk lid and hinge - nothing about the lift struts. I even looked in the index for "trunk" "boot" and "luggage compartment" but still cannot find it! And for what its worth, the alphabetical index isn't really alphabetical, which doesn't help!

The metal tab on the back of the socket the ball fits into that looks like a regular pocket screwdriver fits behind. It does. pry back, pull the shock off.

I couldn't find anything in the W.S.M. either.
