Trun signal relay testing....

I wonder if anyone can advise me on a procedure to check a turn signal relay to see if it is functioning properly. I know I could just go buy a new one and see if that makes a dif. I just like to be able to diagnose the one I have. Call me frugal but spending $40 for nothing is such a waste.
