On my misfire, I am working on testing a couple components tomorrow. However, I'm not quite sure how to test the first 2:

1. Coil pack
2. DIS
3. Broken bolt in intake
4. Wires connected properly, plugs not doing that rare arching thing Scott Patterson described.

Also, would the first 2 even cause a miss only at idle? It's clearly not sapping high end power, as I determined today. wink And is there a way to test the wires? I doubt they'd be bad from the factory though, unless I somehow managed to damage them.

Pat - I remember recently that Super Steve, a.k.a. "ProjectSHO89" posted a testing procedure for the coilpack recently. I think you can pull it off and take it to Autozone and they should be able to test it. I did a search but couldn't find it quickly.

Does the CPS have anything to do with the coilpack, and firing of the cylinders?

Since the coil pack and DIS module both generate DTC's, I would suspect they are probably both OK (unless of course they are generating codes...). I think there's a coil pack testing procedure in the shop manual, but I don't have it nearby to check at the moment.

One way I'll often try to diagnose a ground problem is by installing an additional ground path between one of the mounting screws on the DIS to the pass. strut tower where the neg. lead lug goes. Just a short piece of ~12-14 ga. wire with ring lugs on each end. If this solves the problem, then you know you have a DIS grounding problem via the intake.

Sounds good. I'll give the strap a shot, and I will run for codes again. Actually, I'll do codes first I think, as Scott Patterson states:

"If you are able to get a spark misfire and the engine computer doesn't know about it, only the plugs or wires could cause it."

So if it were a coil or the DIS, I assume they'd give me codes?
