Finally got around to putting my engine together. or the balls to do it anyway. Well, didnt go as planned, weird huh? should be called "Super High Maintenance"

ok so heres my problem:

Checked the ring gap, between .018 and .019. Kinda big but will do. Tried putting in the first piston, i have rubbing on the rod studs. I am using a ring compressing tool. this thing will NOT go in. i already bent some oiling rings trying. have to use old ones now.

So i moved on, tried 3 others, 2 went in beautifully, but still, cannot get number 1 in.

Finally got it in and guess what? It will NOT move. Wtf gives? what am i doing wrong? any tips? I'd like to not ruin anymore rings if possible.

I don't know why it's not going in, but please don't use old rings, just go get a replacement for the damaged ones.

You will have to go to an engine rebuilding shop or a good parts dealer. Auto Zone or Advance Auto will not get you rings for just one cylinder. When you start putting the piston in make sure the compressor is covering all of the rings. It is easy for the compressor to move enough to allow one of the oil rings slip out from under the compressor.

Did you mic all the pistons and bores before you started installing them? What kind of piston to cylinder clearance do you have?

Is there a ridge at the top of the cylinder heads from wear? This will sometimes break rings as you install them.

Cant remember off the top of my head. This really doesnt make any sense to me. The pistons fit before i took it apart haha. It was honed, alls that doing is taking a bit of material out. I'm very new to this, so if you'd like to tell me why im ******** please do so, but with an explanation.

There is, and id say the number 1 cylinder has the biggest ridge or close to. Both of my blocks have these ridges, so i cant see it being something wrong?
