Hey everyone, I was trying my paddle shifting for the first time today, didn't seem to work as I thought it would. I put the car in M mode. I cant down shift from any gear, the dash just flashes the number gear a couple times and doesn't move. Any help or advise from someone would be great.

The flashing number indicates that is the max speed for the gear selected. Example 25 MPH might only get 1 and 2.....If you increase speed to lets say 35 then it might allow you to shift up to 3 45 4 55 5 65 6. I am using sound numbers to set an example.

Try it sometime from a dead stop....you should be able to get 1 and 2.....If you try to upshift at a sooner speed that the transmission control module doesn't think it can handle the it will FLASH that gear. Once you get to a higher speed the next gear should be available. Conversely if you try to get a higher speed without noticing the Tachometer will go all over the place and wind up. If you have the speed try upshifting and the RPM should drop. What year Taurus? Until 2013 SEL/Limited/SHO had paddle shifters with any side could be up or down. in 2013 only SHO kept paddle shift and I believe it was one side up the other down. 2013 models have the manual/sport mode only the controller was moved to the shifter.

Hope this helps.

No sweat glad I could help. Be Advised this is a automatic and prolonged use of the sport mode could lead to early transmisson wear but it is fun to show off every once in a rare while.
