trashed my tranny need to find another one

my tranny on my 95 mtx is trashed the differencial went and it destroyed the case, I have a circular split between the engine and bellhouseing. so I now need a new tranny.
any one know were the cheapest place is to get a used tranny. I thought I would get a used one and rebuild it.before putting it back in to the car.
also is there any thing that can be done to prevent the differential from grenading again. It broke during a hard shift and I let it go because I didn't have the money to fix it so now I need a new tranny.

Your differential pin probably launched itself through the case (common weakness in MTX SHOs). A Quaife Differential (~$1200) is the only real proven way to remove that weak link from the equation. Used MTX's are around the forum - throw a Wanted To Buy ad in the appropriate section.

I occasionally get access to one, but not too often in a verified good condition (usually from salvage auction cars people buy).

I know where there are 2x 1990 SHOs in non-running condition, both with reported good trans - the guy wants $500 for BOTH cars, as-is, where-is, in Wrentham MA.

way to fix grenading would be quaife just like he said. you can find used trannys here in the classifieds, at www.shoclub.com (i think the best place cause u can also put up a wanted ad), then ebay or yahoo auctions. good luck.
