I have a 1998 atx with 67,000 miles, my problem is the tranny decided to **** out all of its fluid while driving on RT 495(MASS). When I took a peek underneth i noticed it was leaking from the front of the tranny where it meets with the engine. Any Ideas on what exactly is the problem.

Thanks. shrug

I also should mention that the car still was able to drive and take all the gears. So the tranny is all in one piece which leaves a bigger mystery to me. I however did not attempt to drive it at all when i notice the trail of smoke behind me, i immediately pulled over and stop the vehicle and had it towed home.

Sounds like the front seal, or pump seal is no longer sealing. Also could have worn out the pump bushing. I would not drive it any more until repaired.

Sounds like the transmission is going to have to come down. At 67k, you may want to just consider an overhaul while it is out. Good luck either way. :)

It could also be a leaking tranny cooler line. Mine rusted out and started leaking last summer. Ford stealer bent me over to the tune of about $450. The rusting lines are a somewhat common problem. You may want to have that changed regardless of whether it's the problem or not.
