when it's sitting still in drive it surges, when you try to move it
surges more, faster movement, harder surges. unplug the electrical connector and it stops but you have to shift manually. it only has 2nd and 3rd gear when it's unplugged.

What surges? The motor or the trans?

What connector did you disconnect?

When it's connected, does the trans shift hard? Have you pulled your codes? I'm just having a hard time understanding exactly what problems you're having. Try to give us a little more to go on.

tranny, you can hear the solenoid clicking on and off. it surges so
hard it doesn't drive with it connected, i think it's switching between gears?
main connection on top of the transmission.
