Odd thing. I thought the trans cooler was the elongated radiator looking block in front of the main radiator. However, reading in the Helms in regard to the trans cooler it refers to the oil cooler inside the outlet tank on the radiator.. Is that two different things? Imm soo confused right now. Thoughts anyone? thanks.

The early '93's only had the ATF-to-coolant radiator tank cooler. When Ford discovered they had a cooling deficiency with the ATX, they added the liquid-to-air cooler in front of the A/C condenser in addition to the radiator tank cooler.

Okay, so did Ford make that change halfway through 1993?? Also, is putting an upgraded trans cooler in front of the radiator a bad idea?? anyone care to chime in?? I touched on this subject before a little bit.

it's always a good idea to add extra cooling to the ATX unless you drive in temps below 40F all the time. Now here's an extra cooler.....

This is on my Gen 3. There is a horizontal piece between the front bumper and the bottom of the radiator. It directs the air either through the radiator, through the cooler and under the car or off to the sides to the brakes and air filter.

Ford calls it a splash shield but it is crucial to air flow after the grill and is OEM on the Gen 3s. I have made one for my Gen 2. Very easy to do with some 1/8" or 1/4" rigid plastic. It will improve the cooling of the radiator, A/C condenser, ATX cooler (if equipped) and the brakes on Gen 1 & 2s.

The one I made is made of 1/4" corrugated polypropylene called Cloroplast. Looks like cardboard but is impervious to the elements.
