If your car was designed to work like this, you would be fine. But it is not. You transmission looks for you torque converter to lock up. It is simply going to burn up your unit.

But hey. What ever you want to do. It is your car. If it were mine, I would FIX the problem. Not try to skate around it. It is only a matter of time.

Well, the TCC slipping is not causing the problem of fluid coming from the trans. The last time this happen, the car made it 30 miles before fluid starting coming out. This time it made it the EXACT same distance, maybe a mile more before the fluid started POURING out... It looks as if it coming from the torque converter seal. So, the theory of the TCC heating up the fluid is false, and bypassing the TCC did nothing but use more gas to come to the same result.

As for the trans destroying itself because the TCC isn't engaging is, IMHO not true. Tell me if I am wrong here, but the torque converter clutch is there to lock the torque converter housing to the turbine inside. This keeps the RPM's down, but eliminates the multiplication factor the torque converter is designed to do. Maybe you are correct SHO#7, but other than having the same problem I had already, which is still a bloody mystery, I don't see how this will hurt the trans at all... I actually got up to speed faster at WOT because the TCC didn't drop my RPM's... One of us is right, and it may very well be you becaus I haven't had a properly working TCC to start with and the TCC is obviously not the cause of my trans leak on long trips, but only time will tell!!

Well, you melted your front seal because your TC did not lock. The face of the converter got so hot that it melted the seal. While you have the transmission down, you might as well rebuild the unit and fix your first problem.

You are talking about the front pump seal? No offense, but I hope you are wrong. I still don't know what is making the trans leak fluid on extended trips. Any ideas on that? Oh, this front pump seal won't allow me to get the car home if it is melted, correct?

Thanks,
Bill

By the time the TC locks up, the 1/4 mile race is over, so this won't change 1/4 mile times.

So now you have a constant slipping TC instead of a slipping TCC. I don't see that as an improvement, but I guess that has already been established.

Yep! I am throwing in the towel! The auto trans is the main reason I *was* selling the car. That is why I love these forums, to learn... Isn't learning fun?!

Have a good one all!
Thanks SHO#7 for the info!

My TC locks up during my 1/4 mile passes. It's near the end up though.
