Hey guys I have a 2000 Taurus and it's got some trans issues I was hopign you might be able to help out with. It's got the 3.0L Vulcan engine in it and from what I read it's basically the same trans as the 93-95 SHO. When I bought it, it had a slipping third gear, at least that's what it seemed like (computer code also said 3rd gear incorrect). Shortly after I drove it maybe 100 miles and now it won't go into third at all. It's literally revving up in second until it can get to forth and it shifts. It shifts fine otherwise 1-2 and 2-4 but its lost third. What could cause this? I've read that the IAC in these cars can screw up shifting, is this even possible? I tried cleaning it and nothing changed.

TIA

Sounds like it needs a rebuild. How does the fluid look, is it burnt or have a lot of metal in it? Is it at the correct level?

I agree. typically the clutch packs will start to slip because they won't engage tightly enough due to wear, and that is what you first experienced. eventually, it won't engage at all, which is your current situation.

your only solution is to rebuild or replace the trans.

Fluid is at the correct level and it is a little burnt so I know it was slipping. But its not even trying to go into gear. Wouldn't it shift into third and just slip?
