i'm going to be purchasing a tranny temp gauge soon but I need to know what operating range I should be looking for, here are the 2 gauges i'm considering

http://store.summitracing.com/partd...4294822101+4294879388+4294905502&autoview=sku

and this one

http://store.summitracing.com/partd...4294822101+4294879388+4294905502&autoview=sku

I prefer the full sweep gauge even thogh it cost a bit more but if it is out of the normal and high ranges of the tranny than what good is it. so what is the normal, high, and dangerous temps for the SHO tranny?

edit: one more question I need a gauge pod do any pods from other cars fit this, I herd rumors a while back that the mustang ones were a decent fit is this true?

if you note one is a Electrical unit, (first one ) and the other is a Mechanical unit

to install a Mechanical gauge would be diffcult in a SHO

Jeff

P.S. I have the electrical units in water and oil pressure in my car now on a piller mount, the quality is awsome they look great too

my main question is the temp range the electrical is 100-250 and the mechanical is 140-280, I ran a road course (gingerman) at ROTB 2K5 and plan on going again for 2006 and I over heated the tranny twice puking fluid and tripping a safemode so I need a way to moniter this but I need to find out what the operating temprature range is.

P.S. I am running 2 coolers but still overheated after a 30 min session (actually about 25 min in it overheated and tripped the warning light (flashing O/D light)

If your tranny goes above 230 frequently you will have major problems. optimal range would be about 190. but anywhere from 180-210 is pretty normal for a factory setup.

thank you

no i'm not running a fan on the coolers but for what i'm running I am using the large stacked plate cooler that comes stock as well at a sube and fin cooler that is probably 12"X10" and it actually runs too cold on the highway (loose TC lockout when maintaining high speeds) and thats why I just got a tranny thermostat from paul nims but I know it running too cold on the highway because if I block off the second cooler the TC locks properly and all is good, but at gingerman it just wasn't enough when the last 2 sessions were extended from 15 min to 30 min but everything worked perfectly in the 4 15 min sessions.

when runnig on the track your not getting the air flow that you get on the highway, try to run a e fan on one of the cooler's o bring the temp down .or relocate the cooler for better low speed air flow

At Gingerman you should be able to go a minimum of ~50 mph and +100 mph max. But the WOT pulling out of a turn at the lower speeds that really heat things up.

At Putman this year my tranny got up to 215F after the last session. I was quite impressed. At Gingerman this early summer with similar ambient temps but a oil t-stat and a 30 row stacked plate cooler and the OEM POS cooler with the radiator bypassed the temp got up to 260F the first time out.

For Putman Park I took the t-stat out, got rid of the stacked plate cooler, added the GEN 2 ATX cooler and another 6 tube and fin cooler for horizontal placement over the radiator splash shield.

I was so impressed that the tube and fin cooler came out. But now have a large Hayden engine oil cooler laying there. This has engine coolant running through it and then it goes on to the OEM oil cooler coolant input port.
