So I read the "how to remove trans" thread/post in the how to section and still have a few more questions to those of you that have pulled off an ATX swap with the engine in the car... So first off, I am a SHO mechanical noob and don't have too much experience aside from the regular maintenance etc... so this is my first big job... I am putting a different tranny in my 93 ATX this weekend and I am trying to do this with the engine in the car and just dropping the transmission out... what is the best way to do this? I have had friends swap trannies in other cars and they dont shift exactly right when they get put back in... is there a trick to not have this problem. Swap them in Park or Neutral? I am also taking the torque converter with the new one into my car... is it all 1 unit that I have to just bolt in there... is it that easy? lol

ANY ANY ANY insight or pics or if someone has the CD they can email me or something to assist me in this project

Justan, there are a couple of things that you are likely to get tripped up on - on the very right end of the atx trans, there are a couple of bolts that anchor the trans to the engine. The manuals don't bother to tell you about those bolts, so you may find yourself wondering why the engine and trans won't separate.... The other 'gotcha' is the one bolt on the top of the trans housing on the firewall side of the engine - it is pretty much right up under the rear head, and is a real pita to get to.

The torque converter comes off the flex plate w/ 4 bolts in typical fashion.

The shifting issues are likely due to not having the shifter cable connected correctly - there is a long slot for adjustment and it is important to have that adjusted correctly.
