About how much time does it take to remove and replace a tranny in a 93atx. A friend of mine is a good mechanic with all the tools and hoist.

Ford book labor is 5.8 to 6.2 hours of labor for ATX R&R (according to the SLTS (Service Labor Time Standards) which is how Ford calculates how much they charge you for labor). This is presuming that a lift, tranny jack, and all of the necessary tools, etc. are on-hand.

For a first-time DIY'er, I'd plan on at least double that amount of time, more likely closer to triple. You'll also want to keep a reserve budget available to replace things like various bushings, etc. that are bad or might become damaged during the job. It's also good to inspect things like the CV shafts and suspension parts in advance to avoid surprises once the car is in pieces.
