tranny problem???

ok i bought a 97 sho with 160,000 on it. the tranny will not lock in to 1st gear.if you put the car in to drive it gos no were but if you drop it in to 1 the it moves but with alot of sliping. we hooked it to the computer and the number 1 drive solenoid will not tune on. if i replace this do you guys think this fix the tranny??? ( its not a fun or easy job) or am i just waisting my time. the tranny also slips a little in 2nd but gos good in 3rd with no probles.

It may help, but it still sounds like you really have just gotten to the time where you need a full transmission rebuild.
