I dont know much about this so here it goes.. I have a friend with a SHO that has the following problems...

If he tries to take off rather fast the car begins to SHUDDER, if he takes off slow it shudders a little and then it goes away and shifts into the next gear fine, from then on its fine, but if he tries to floor it it just starts shuddering again???

We came to the conclusion that its the torque convertor that needs replacing?? or... has anyone have this type of problem before? And how much of a pain would it be ($$$) to fix..

Not too sure, but he's pretty positive its the tranny, we took a drive with a good friend of mine today and he nailed it down to the torque converter slipping, engine has 95K on it dont know about the 60K.... We will probably look at it again tomorrow (Im planning to buy it if we can figure this out...)

Its not a little shudder, its a pretty big, car shaking shudder that you cen feel and it wont change gears until u let off the gas... Then it works normal after you pick up some speed.

one more question, if it is the tranny the guy is going to give me a tranny he has from another car.... How hard is it to swap out a tranny from our SHO's?

From another sho right? Swapping a tranny can be somewhat difficult if you dont know waht your doing, but i dont really know about atxs. If you are getting another tranny you may want to talk to some atx people about reinforcing it so you wont have this problem again. Good luvk waht ever you do. thumb

Most transmission shops will do a free diagnoses for you. They have ways of doing pressure tests among other things to pin point your problem. If your friends transmission does happen to be blown, upon swapping or rebuilding a trans-go shift kit will really help. It redirects fluid for better oiling and has two options for shifting performance (firm or soft). Keep in mind that firm shifts are good, they eliminate rubbing that goes on when a car shifts "softly". Also, with the ATX transmission a larger tranny cooler is a good idea.

On a side note, torque converters are not the normal weak spot of these transmissions. Also, a torque converter always has some slip to it, that is how it operates.
