I have the tranny and engine out, so I wanted to go through the transmission and "Refresh" it, if you will. It was a messy job and the CV shafts are not in there any more so all of the grease is out of it, and all of the tranny oil has left the housing as well, so I know I need to replace that stuff. Is there anything else? Is there a good way of going about inspecting it?

Bradman: Yup. The engine is out and sold (a friend wanted it). We just pulled the tranny and FINALLY got the subframe bolted back on (took it off so we could get the engine out). I haven't worked on it much because of the weather. Once I get the steering linkage back up I'm going to roll it out of the alley and tow it to my brother's house. He has a garage with a spare bay, so now the car won't be rained on. I'll go check out shonut.

SHOBound: You mean a drain plug on the transmission oil pan? I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that it's a MTX. I didn't think they had one...

60k maybe? shrug The plug is also very useful for draining the trans for removal or for trying different fluids. It's also nice to be able to drain your redline fluid back into the bottle after it's been in there for 50 miles and you have to pull the tranny, rather than wasting it. Here is a pic of mine. I used an elbow instead of a plug so I could install a temp sender and so I didn't strip out the threads in the case. (Which I don't believe is a problem, it just would be for me knowing my luck.)
