I think by 1992 Ford was using upgraded blocking rings and syncros. I have had my 1989 transaxle rebuilt at 119,000 miles and have put 40,000 miles on it since with no problems.
I have a 92 with 130k on the tranny and its running strong. Holds up after a few burn outs here and there. I may have it rebuilt for safety measure this summer though. I think it will last even longer though.
