hey guys listen to this one...

i stop at a national chain tranny shop to see if they'll do a atx pump for me (i bought the redline type 4, but i'm not too handy with the wrenches and such yet soo..)
they say "ya no prob"...
i go outside with the mechanic to show him the SHO and
he goes "oohhh nooo, wait a minute you said it was a taurus... i shouldn't do that one"...
so i kinda giggle a little (no big deal, but the guy looks like he saw satan sitting in his lot)...
then he goes "why are you using that fluid it's too expensive and there's no benefit"...
so i say "thanks anyway but you just made this decision alot easier for me".
and so...the SHO rides off into the sunset.

anybody had this kind of experience with the car?

I just changed my tranny fluid in my car! I never really do anything to my car.It was a really easy job.Just jack the car up,remove half of the bolts on the pan and let it drain for a while..Then go back and take the rest of them off. Take the pan off and right at the top of the trans there is a little filter.Go to a auto store bye you and tell them you need a gasket and a filter. It was only about 10 dollars for the kit. It was a really easy job to do.

BUT:I changed mine because it was starting to slip alot.THe pan had alot of gunk in the bottom.I could smear it all over.So I put the new fluid and what not in...And less then a month later the tranny took a krap! What I have heard if you wait so long(122k miles) then the new fluid can hurt the tranny.Thats if the gears and what not is already burnt. But,you dont have that many miles so you would be all fine. Now in my car I am going to change it 1 time a year.I got new tranny w/shift kit..

I would say just change it and you will see how easy it is.Good Luck and sorry for the long reply!

Flushing the transmission is just as easy as changing your oil. I've done this procedure twice with no problems. Drop the pan and install a new filter and gasket. My Fram kit cost <$20. Next, locate the tranny cooler mounted in front of the radiator. Get about 6' of 3/8" hose, disconnect the transmission cooler line on the DRIVERS side of the cooler, attach the 3/8" hose to the cooler, start car in neutral and as the old fluid pumps out, add new in. A complete flush will take 3 gallons of fluid. Advice, use a 5 gallon bucket for the old fluid and put the new fluid into 1 gallon containers when adding because it will pump out the old fluid in 3 minutes. Good Luck!

Okay, I am looking into doing this pretty quick...do you have to replace the pan and gasket before pumping it all out with the motor running, correct?

Yes, filter/gasket first. Good luck Jeremy, I know from reading you have had a lot of tranny problems.

Mechanics in our area seem to be real panzee's when it comes to working on these cars. For example, my waterpump job. I called 5 garages to do it. 4 of them said no and 1 said they'd do it if i let the double the labor rate. Shawn and I ended up doing it.
Another thing. when my bro's tranny went on his 89 back in the day, he brought it to two different tranny shops and within two hours of drop off, got the call back saying they wouldn't do it. then he went to Meoni brothers and he said they're the best mecahnics he's ever seen. Just a little history of SHO's and mechanics in our area.

I found a tranny guy that does't fear this beast.
I did however come across a tranny shop that basicly chased me out the door swearing that he will never touch another f'in SHO again.

It makes me proud to know the fear this car inspires.
