My next project when I get home was wondering if there was any good step by step how-to's floating around. Search feature turned up nothing for me.

As far as the tranny goes... since I didnt see a plug for it I have to drop the pan...? What is the best method to cycle old crap out...?(car sat for 8 months...) also what is the tranny capacity and the fluid I use? Mer-V?

Intake removal I assume is the only way to get to the rear 4 cyls... Right? Got smoke coming from back there... hoping for the best.

Be kind to the gasket when you take it apart, because those gaskets are very difficult / impossible to find, so you may need to re-use the one you have....

Intake gaskets are not hard to find.. Valve cover/head gaskets are though.

I have a bunch of intake gaskets (NEW) myself that I bought from Ford.

The surge tank and the runners attached to it stay as one piece.

Take the stuff off the back of the surge thank, remove the front metal straps, loosen all the hose clamps on just one side.

Loosen the TB rubber hose clamp.

Wiggle the surge tank off.

Yeah, what Paul said. That is really the easiest way to do it. Use the horns as leverage to get it off as well. It helps.. A LOT.

The surge tank is located at the back of the engine. Its the common place that all the intake runners get there air from. Follow the Throttle body to the back of the engine and you will find the surge tank.

How does one remove the Throttle Body for cleaning with mass amounts of carb cleaner? Thought this was relevant as disasembly of the intake as the process leaves the Throttle Body somehow mounted in place and I want to save room on the forums. My car is increasing its rpms and rolling idle up and down at stop lights about 200rpms. I just want to clean the butterfly plate and inspect the body for any defects.Any hazards or precautions I should take?A preliminary diagonosis would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Alaric

No need to take it and the 90 apart. Just take off the IAC and hose the thing down.
