I posted here awhile ago saying that my car had hesitation poblems and if you put the pedal to the floor it would just bog. Also one thing that I notice, my car gets terrible gas mileage, its empty after about 180 miles. I can tell it runs rich because you can smell gas when i rev it a lot. Well I checked my codes finally today and it said I had a bad Throttle Position Sensor. Is this is what is causing the problem?

A bad throttle position sensor will definitely cause a problem, but maybe only a part of the problems you are experiencing. It will help with the throttle response problem and some other driveability glitches. Use the Wells TPS215 from AutoZone for $18.99.

I already replaced those, along with: fuel filter, plugs and wires, air filter, and I cleaned out the Throttle Body.

It might be your ACT sensor, which is inside your stock air box. They tend to get clogged with carbon and it messes up the sensor itself. Its only about $14 from Autozone and is a quick fix. I would normally say your O2's but you already fixed that.

FOSHO94,

Here are a few additional thoughts for you. The codes that the computer stores do not diagnose the problem, but rather tell you of the symptom the computer has experienced. In this case your computer has not received the signal it has been programed to expect from the TPS.

It could be because the TPS has failed, or it could be an open or short in the signal wire, or a bad ground for the sensor. The TPS is most likely the problem, but if you replace the sensor and the problem persists, you have more diagnostic work to do.

The point I am trying to make here is that the "Code" does not automatically mean that the sensor is bad. The codes will give you a good lead as to where the problem is, but it (the code) will not diagnose the problem for you.

Just some food for thought! rangerj

These same symptoms happened to my SHO a while back, but believe it or not some fuel injector cleaner cleared the problem right up. Maybe you have a real problem with your car, but this is worth a shot. Use Chevron with Tectron, thats what i used.

Clean your MAF sensor filaments with Electrical Contact cleaner and replace your TPS. This will clear up your bogging problem almost certainly.

I replaced the TPS today, it didn't change much, but I noticed today that the distributor cap has a lot of courosion on it and the rotor. So I am going to replaced those two things, do you think that will help?

It is distributorless...

There is no rotor...

The SHO has a DIS (distributorless ignition system)
The "system" consists of the following components:
1. crankshaft timing sensor
2. camshaft sensor
3. DIS ignition module
4. Ignition coilpack
5. EEC IV module
6. and related wiring (conductors between components and plug wires)

No distibutor, to rotor...

What are you looking at? Not a SHO engine. The SHO has no distributor, no rotor and no points. Let us in on the secret.

Distributor cap? SAY WHAT? What kind of car are you working on? Are you talking about the coil pack that the plug wires come out of?

Clear the codes. Then check the codes after the car is fully warmed up. Then get back to us with the codes you get, and a list of everthing you have replaced so far. rangerj
