Just bolts right on. When you install you're supposed to put tension on the sensor clockwise i.e. when you install it should fit correctly with the connector just above horizontal and you slightly rotate clockwise and line up the screw holes. You may need to replace the screws with hex head replacements as they are notorious for stripping the screw head on removal.

It's probably the easiest thing you can change on the car, I'd say changing the battery would be harder. It sits right on top of the throttle body its a black square looking thing w/two screws, and can be removed in a few minutes, tested by a parts store and replaced if necessary.

what is the routine to go about replacing a tps, do you have to adjust anything or is it a direct bolt on item?
Contrary to belief you can adjust it a bit. The holes aren't slotted but they do have play for adjustment. Using a multimeter with the new TPS in but not tight, and the connecter plugged into it, Ground on Multimeter lead to the TB and use the other and probe it in to middle wire on the connecter. Turn your key to the ON position and measure the DC volts. They should be betwee .96v and .98v. pivit the TPS til you get this setting then tighten the screws. It might move as you tighten it but just keep doing it til you get it right. After you have it set, blurp the TB a few times to make sure. Then disconnect the battery and depress the brake pedal for 5 minutes. Reconnect the battery and start the car and turn everything on, lights, AC and all. Let it run for a few minutes and then have fun.

FWIW - mine was throwing codes for 'TP circuit output out of range' and all it took was a little tweaking to get back to 111 (system pass). Loosen the two screws slightly and follow Shoman94's directions to measure the voltage. Move the tps around until you get a reading between .96 and .98 and tighten it back up.

yeah i didnt get to adjust it yet, although i noticed a considerable difference from before when my car was running really rich and i had a ****** idle, there is still a slight problem. When im just cruising in a gear and i accelerate, it feels like there is a delay in the throttle response, maybe the tps needs some adjusting because it feels like the car is being starved of fuel.

it also has a delayed throttle response when in neutral as well, so it cant be anything in the driveline. If i gradually get into the throttle there usually isnt a delay, but if i step into it right away, then it just falls on its face.

They say 100,000 miles but I check mine every so often. You can get the wells TPS from autozone for less then 20 bucks I believe. SHONUT has the Ford TPS for 30 bucks.

question for you guys.......i just noticed this yesterday. I was cruising in 4th gear with a steady throttle. Then all of a sudden the car just bucks once. Scared the shit out of me. So i was like hmmm what could it be. I scanned my codes and found the cps sensor which i have always gotten and hasn't failed yet ( knock on wood ), and then i got the "could not control idle", which has to do with the IAB valve but i just cleaned that about 2,000 miles ago. So today I go out in my car and it seemed realllll sluggish. Like a totally different car. I have no idea why. Then i noticed that it bucked again in 4th gear. Do you guys think this sounds like a tps? It would kinda make sense but I better get all of your input before i get one. I went out tonight again and my car seemed like it was running a lot better so i'm not sure now. Please help.

Sounds more like either the cam sensor or the crank sensor.

The IAB will cause problems at or near idle speed, normally.

Its electronic it can **** the bed when ever I just replaced mine while doing my 100K (140+) and it was working fine. On the other hand you could put a brand new one on and it could failat any time.

Well, To postivily identify if the TPS has a short or dip, unplug the TPS and OHM between the each outer and middle pin. In other words you'll be making 2 tests. Using the lower outer with the center then the upper outer with the center. One of which will start at a low resistence and the other will start at a high resistence. On each test watch the meter closely and move the throttle by hand very slowly til you reach full throttle and then back down very slowly til idle. The numbers should increase and decrease and vise-versa smoothly with no dips or peaks. If either condition appear, the TPS needs replacement.

But with your description, I'm leading towards the cam or crank sensor myself.
