TPS Problems!

Today has been a REALLY bad day for my SHO. I was noticing poor throttle response so I decided I'd replace my TPS. Well I did this and I got a check engine light. I then read that you had to rotate the sensor clockwise to set it??? Well I tried this and still nothing. So I put the stock one back in. Check engine light still on with the stock one. So I tried leaving it plugged in and rotating the sensor and finally I got the light off. The engine was idling funny and when I went to drive it I lost 3rd and 4th gears!!! So Im thinking the new one I got was bad and the stock one is F'd. Any recommendations??? Also what is the exact proper way to install the TPS as far as the setting it? I need this to be fixed like NOW cause I leave for a 1200 mile road trip for spring break. Sorry for the long post! Just a little frustrated! shoot

Have you checked the codes to see what the EEC is trying to tell you? It may not be the TPS.

I have just installed the TPS without any additional adjustments though the output voltage should be just under 1.0 volt at idle (0.97V). You may just need to reset the idle programming (disconnect battery, wait 15 minutes, reconnect battery, start engine, let revs settle, with 70 seconds of starting the engine, put shifter in D, A/C to MAX, headlights ON, turn steering wheel side to side).
