Hello all,

I am a new poster here. On my 93 ATX I recently had a Check Engine Light come on and had it diagnosed at a local Ford dealer. They said my TPS and MAF sensors were out of range and needed replacement. I decided to undertake it myself: changed the TPS and the car seemed to run better, without the occassional jittery surges/drops between 1500 and 2000 RPM I was feeling. Now the same surges/drops are occurring again (no Check Engine Light though).
Questions:
-could the MAF also be the culprit, as dealer stated, and should I replace that too?
-could there a dirty/bad wire also involved with the TPS or MAF giving me the problem?
-are the symptoms I experienced above consistent with either (or both) of these parts going?

FWIW, my idling at a stop has been fine...

Thanks in advance
Dan

Although it does sound like a bad MAF, there are a number of things it *could* be.

My advice, instead of throwing expensive parts at it, is to swap MAFs with a fellow SHOwner and see if that fixes your problem. If so, you know yours is bad. If not, you know yours if fine, and can look elsewhere for help.

I have a spare MAF sitting in my garage just for such tests wink

Good luck!

Thanks Steve/David.....

I cleaned it as indicated and that didn't help....changed it and it's running fine now.
Appreciate the help.
