torque specs

I have been seeing quite a few of you guys asking for torque specs for various things and I would like to share some of the info I have access to. I would like to compile a list of torque specs. for you guys and would like some feed back on what you guys would like to see on that list. i say this because i could just copy/paste them but this would be a HUGE page and a lot of reading with IMO some useless specs for most of you guys (mostly things you wouldnt be replacing due to warenties an such).

Once you guys start with some items I will start to "build" up the torque chart, and then post a complete chart to make thing easier for you guys in the future. If for some chance there is NOT a torque spec for something you list I will let you guys know before the chart is completed. I would also like to know if this is something you guys would like done, and how you feel about it.

Yes indeed! it's a good thing for those that like to be exact about getting things done right. I was trying to find the torque for the aluminnum oil pan, oil plug drain.

well it looks like the oil pan is tightened in a few stages first the four corner bolts are tightened to 27 in lbs (3 Nm). then Install the remaining oil pan bolts. Tighten all the oil pan bolts in the sequence shown.
Tighten the large bolts (1-14) to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
Tighten the small bolts (15 and 16) to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
unfortionaly my work computer wont let me post the pic of the sequence. will try to get it up later tonight when i get home.

the oil drain plug is 20ft lbs(27 Nm)

edit* havent gotten any other feed back on this so im guessing it will be one of those as needed things witch is fine. I just think it would help everyone out if there was a list of specs. But like said before if i just copy/pasted it would be alot of usless stuff in there and would take up some space.

Cool idea, LowC ..... Right off the top of my head -- what is the recommended spec for wheel lugnuts on our SHO's?
Out of habit I'd go about 80 ft lbs since they're cast but it would help to know the spec to be more exact.
I always re-torque mine after service and of course when I change wheels myself.

Spark plugs are another thing I've lost track on in recent years. I don't even know yet if ours are the gasketted or tapered seats. (gap too if you know it)
Would be good to know that spec too.

One final thing on the SHO is the spec on caliper bolts for when I do the brakes.

Thanks for the info on the oil drain plug. I'm rather uneasy about an aluminum pan.

I pointed this out only as a reason for all of us to "read" the detail. On my G8's, the intake manifold is tightened using an "inch-Lbs" spec. Had to find out how to switch it to Ft-Lbs. Turned out, I could have likely over-tightened the intake bolts with a socket screwdriver! :munch:

I use a torque wrench to tighten lugs, but it's not my smaller inch-lbs one.:thankyou:

No worries Bob, actually my estimate of in lbs is fairly accurate I believe.

LOL, and each one of those snails is turbocharged and on a tune.:)

Yes to "reading" the specs -- for sure. Your example of intake manifold bolts has reminded me of many a rookie overtightening them with predictably bad results.

This 'rookie' would have undertightened his lugnuts (by 20lbs!) so I'm not preaching by any means.

Our 'source' of info and specs is a good one. :thumb:

When you gonna whip those supercharged snails to a 12 second run? soon I hope.

Speaking of overtightening, I have a mechanic friend whose motto is "Tighten it until it snaps, then back it off half of a turn".
