That's where your way off Tim. I've done this repeatedly. I have 3-4 slips right in front of me where I got some crap 60' times and ran 13.7-13.8 E/T's @ 107-108 MPH in my nitrous SHO. My 1/8th times were at 9.2-9.3 @ 85 ish MPH.

-Sam

I reexamined my calculations, and I am sad to admit, that Sam is correct

One would only have to move 145.9 fps to cover the last 1/8th in 4.523 seconds, which translates to an average speed of 99.5 mph, completely within reason given the trap speeds (for the guy with the 13.8 time). My bad.

But I stand by my statement that there is NO WAY that car #206 ran the time it did, based again off the last 1/8th. He covered it in 4.55 s, which translates to 145.05 fps, which = 98.9 mph. No way for a car that at best traps 100mph to AVERAGE 99 through the last 660'.

Still, a 14.6@97 is quick. What mods?

14.6 is quick for a stock car, i would be proud of that. My gutted full bolt on 3.2 swapped ran 14.2 @ 100. I just dont see a stock sho running 14.2. Sorry bud, but im impressed with a stock car running 14.6

Submitting my 90. Car 206 on the left.

It's a stock 3.0. I'd been getting better at timing shifts and my ETs had been going down all day.

I guess I hit "Jesus Gear" in the "Prayers: Answered" zone.

;)

Being the only SHO at a "SHO meet" I guess it felt obligated to rep the car the best it could!

and I didn't realize that some the NA ATX times on this list were only low 15's. I need to see if I can find my time slip from years ago when my '95 ran a 15.33 before blowing the diff on the following run off the line :nut:

But no weight reduction? No horn removal, nothing? A 14.6 is great, especially considering the sub-optimal 60's. No way on this earth a 2.34 60' is netting a 14.2 on a stock 3.0.

If I were to tell you that I tuned it myself with a twEECer, performed port matching, ran extra timing, tight shims and 94 octane/turbo blue mixture...would that make a difference?

It would still be considered "Stock" by my standards and would definitely be "Naturally Aspirated".

I'm not telling you that any of those things mentioned are true...

Let look at my theory something fired the finish line before you hit the traps.
At 97 mph your covering 142.26 feet/ sec
The traps are 66 feet long. This would be 66/142.26 so it would take you .4639 Seconds to cover the traps. This would make a nice believable 14.7 if you were doing 97 MPH. It looks close but it does read minus 15.25 mph so in my mind something hit second line before you broke the first otherwise you would be at 0 MPH.
So 15.25x 5280= 80520/60/60=22.3 feet per second. So you would be 22.3 feet prior to the traps when the time was tripped.
So take the 66+22.3=88.3/142.26=.62
This would add .6 seconds from your time of 14.2. Making a 14.8@97
Some of this is obviously off as we do not know what your actual trap speed was I also didn't take into account that there is acceleration still occurring.
If my math is off some feel free to correct as I didn't put much thought into it.

I've got the vid link over in the Lapeer post with his 14.23 and his 14.60 runs. My brain doesn't feel like calculations today, so I'll leave it to you guys!

Anyway, there's a coupla vids with my GoPro running aginst Tom. I'm turning high 15s @ 88-ish (can't get a 60' with the traction control). Anyway, in both of them, he's pulling away from me like there's no tomorrow!

I've raced a LOT of SHOs in my day, and I know what a second different in ET means, but my SVT runs good after the soft launches, and he was whuppin' my ass.

ISHODO, I like your methodology and I'm willing to admit that a timing error is possible - so lets average it, I don't care - I had a blast.

It was my second time ever to the drag strip. The first time I went was in 2000 with my 67' Fairlane and I made one pass that day. It was 14.1@101.

As far as I'm concerned, the original SHO has, once again impressed even the die hard SHO fans. I started the day running 15.2 and ended running in the mid 14s with one unbelievably fast run.

Put me down for a (14.23+14.61)/2=

14.42@97

Or put me down for a 14.608.

But people should be careful when they decide that timeslips and video aren't enough proof of a 1/4 mile time for a 22 year old car - especially if those same people will stand up in a crowd and defend the car in question because if it's killer engine and SURPRISING speed capabilities. Just sayin'

And let me just throw this out there...
History has NOT SHOWN that 22 year old SHO engines don't suddenly wake up and go "ludicrous speed" one day.

As I think about these runs, I remember saying to myself that I need to add more RPM to the launch. I wasn't bogging and I wasn't tearing them loose.

That's how I kept improving the ETs. I added RPM to the launch and I kept shifting later and later into second and third gear. I also spun the tires in prestaging more and more as the day went on to get them cleaned off and maybe warmed up a bit more. This 14.23 run was my second to last of the day. I did all of it. I spun the tires TWICE during prestaging and let the RPMs climb ALL THE WAY TO 8000 on both shifts (I've never reached the rev limit on this car...and I've seen 8k many times according to my tach - which might be off or maybe I don't have a rev limit).

I guess I'll just have to go back to the drag strip...

Look i Was not being a ******** so dont tell me to stfu, i have over 100 passes in my sho on the strip even being a "novice" with consistent 2.2 60fts and 100 mph traps got me in the 14.2's. Yeah your prowd of running a 14.2 but im telling you its a timing error, unless the car is not stock and you dont know about it. Look at it this way, you pushed a stock sho into mid 14's that alone is a accomplishment. Run consistently 14.2's or more than once ill belive it.

I'm going to dig deep into my passive aggressive nature and simply pretend you said "Wow. Unbelievable time, man".

Thanks Zach. It was fun!

Id say with the fact hes running really high octane and the timing to use it, this very well maybe possible. Sometimes SHO's just go nuts!

Any guess on what the Octane rating on your "mix" is; because turbo blue around here is 110 :naughty:
