Today i removed my intake manifold jsut to get a feel for everything. took much less time to put it all back together than taking it off did. Im getting ready to do the top end of my engine for the 60k this friday with my friend. so far i've gotten the fel pro gasket set for my leaky plug well seals and for the valve covers, new autolite 3923 plugs, motorcraft wires, and i still need to pick up the intake manifold gaskets. as far as the valve adjustment, i still have to pick up the tools and i'll need shims. whats the best place to get them from, and is there anything else im forgetting here that can be done while im in the top? not that it really took long to dig into it at all, but might as well do it all at once. i'm gonna clean out the intake manifold nicely too while its off again, boy was it dirty. thanks for any tips

I don`t think you`ll be able to do the valves this Friday. The only place to rent the kits are SHO Shop,Cincy SHO,and SHONut.

If you call Josh at SHO Nut and beg and plead with him to expedite the tools & shims you might be able to get them for Friday.

While you're at it, return those Autolite plugs and spring the extra few bucks to get the real Motorcraft AGSP32PP plugs.

Make sure you put something on the tappet holder so it doesn't fall into the motor. Some of that going around. Cincy SHO is out of the kit rental business according to their website.

Please use the Motorcraft AGSP32PP plugs rather than the Autolites. Those are too tall and will not let the plug boot seal against the valve covers correctly. This allows moisture and grit down in the wells which will definitely cause you problems sooner or later. You can get the Motorcrafts at local auto supplies (O'Reilly) for as little as $3.79.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think im just gonna do the valve adj in about a week or so, so we can do my friends car at the same time. for now im just gonna do the rest. If i'm planning on running nitrous, wont the stock motorcraft plugs not hold up? i've heard good things about the autolites, however i did not know they were a bit too long.
