Is there a workaround or "trick" to adjust tension on a new timing belt without the special tools referred to in the Ford shop manual?

Thanks

I did it for the first time on my 95 ATX this winter, it is very simple especially on a 3.2. Simply follow the instructions in the Helms by undoing the two bolts holding the tensioner in place. DO NOT loosen the bolt that is in the middle of the idler. Then compress the tensioner with a vice, some have used C-clamps successfully I personally didn't and found a vice to work just fine. Then put the allen wrench in the tensioner to hold it. Reinstall it in the car, line up and position the belt. Then release the tensioner and you are done. So, all you really need is a vice and a allen wrench of the right size. Hope that helps.
