All,
Well I had a little problem with my front Tokico Struts this week.
DSC 0072 640

From the photo, you can see that the top of the strut sheared off completely. Thankfully we were not on a high speed turn!!!

And these are the Tokico strut inserts.
DSC 0074 640

So I called a few places and was told that these particular inserts are now discontinued. I plan to send them back for a refund since the struts are lifetime warranty and I was told by Tokico that I have to deal with my original vendor for warranty issues. So they (SHOX.COM) plan to credit my account when I recieve a refund from Tokico.

Does anyone here have detailed insructions as to how to install the Koni inserts into the Tokico strut bodies? I have found a few on the web, but nothing specific to the Taurus SHO. Photos would be great? Any specific advice on fitment. I did a search on this forum, but found a bunch of broken links. I was told by several vendors to stay away from the KYB brand so that is part of the reason for going with the Koni Inserts as well as having the Eibach lowering springs. I plan to take photos of the install for future reference and post them here.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Are most of the Tokico inserts the same physical shape? If they are, then it might be possible to get a different insert with different (read: stiffer) damping characteristics that might benefit us. Anybody? ...anybody?

Konis include instructions and it straight forward.

1) Drill small hole to drain oil

2) Drain oil.

3) Cut off top according to instructions.

4) Remove internals.

5) Drill larger hole in bottom and clean up struts

6) Install struts or install spacer ring then install struts.

We do sell precut struts and I do show some of the install pictures: SHOBros

The Tokico struts are shot... I mean that they sound like a rain stick when you turn them over. Something has come apart inside the insert. Also, I can easily press in the plunger with very little effort. I am going to just change them out and put in the Adjustable Koni's.

ShoBros. Thanks for the pictures. I plan to use the housings that I have on the car. These are that Tokico's that I have removed the inserts.

I hope to receive all my parts this Friday so that she can be back on the road this weekend.

Thanks everyone. I love the wealth of information on this forum

I have installed the koni struts in the front housings, not the rear yet. But all you have to do is drill a 14mm hole at the bottom of the housing, then file a bit of the internal threads then pull the koni in the tube with the bolt, Job done after you install the rubber sleeve.

Where did you get all your parts from, Shox.com again? I need to do the same, but wasn't planning on going with Koni's, but it looks like that's my only option if I want a performance tuned strut.

Yes, I ordered the parts from SHOX.com since they are the original vendors for the busted Tokicos. I will be shipping the busted Tokicos back to them for warranty and a refund.

You will not find the Ingalls Camber/Caster plates on their web site. You will nee d to call them. I spoke to Bob, who was very helpful.

Those camber/caster front strut mounts look identical to the Moogs I got several months ago from RockAuto.

Outside of the orange tag (which is the same color), are there any identifying marks, serial numbers, or stampings anywhere on the Ingalls mounts?

LOUDSHO92,
I must apologize for not using you for the replacement parts. I got all caught-up in trying to get a warranty refund through the original vendor that I completely forgot to look at the vendors that exclusively support the car and feeding of the SHO. Any future purchases will be from SHOBros or another one of the SHO supporters.

Who knows... I may be purchasing the Ingalls Rear Eccentric Bushings soon.

Later,
Michael
