Alright guys, I searched the forum for a while, but I need a direct answer. I'm installing a new (slightly used clutch) sunday and/or monday. Due to the convention, which I unfortionatly can't make it to, I'm unable to get a throw out bearing from either shonut or midwest. Would it be a bad idea to put in any throwout bearing from say Autozone or something like that. I don't want to have to replace too soon. Is there any other options??

If you are installing a used clutch, you will be taking it back out much sooner than if it was a new one. So with that, why put in a new TOB with a used clutch assembly? Did it not come with a TOB? I don't see why not put in any other type of TOB, new or used, unless you are aiming toward the ceramic TOB.

I have a used one somewhere around here with a new quill sleeve, if you need one asap...it only has like 1k miles. I can get it there by Monday.

You could do what I did and just go to a ford dealership.. It was only like $20 I think for mine when i did my trans. And 2,000 miles later it is still working without a problem.

Coming from a guy that helped put in USED rod bearings you should not see any problem with this.

First off, "I" put them in. Second, the car they went in, the owner could not wait nor afford new ones and the used one had no copper showing. Third, this guy comes on here posting about how he is putting in a "USED" clutch kit which signals HE does NOT have the money to afford a NEW one much less go out and buy a NEW TOB. I was offering him a USED one with 1k miles on it for FREE so he could get HIS SHO running asap with something he may not have the money for. So before you go saying crap you have no idea about, you need to check yourself! I was simply trying to help someone out, which obviously cannot afford new parts. If helping someone out results in ******** like yours, then forget it. I don't see you in this part of the forum offering REAL help, much less could you provide it! Not everyone has money lying around to go buy new parts all of the time and that's when I try my best to help. Look at the people looking for used alts, starters, tensioners, and so on......go figure!

Edit: And the intentions on those rod bearings was to see if it healed the problem and if it did, then they would only stay in there until he had the funds to purchase the rod bearing kit.

Wow you have an attitude problem.

Never in this thread was it posted that he had no money to afford "new". He was looking at a TOB from midwest or Sho nut you dumb a$$.
2nd: NEVER PUT IN USED ROD BEARINGS. You are just stupid if you do. $65 is NOT alot of money.
3rd: I have helped many members with "free work and many parts". I just sent YamahaSHO a "new" supercharger pulley for free. I even ATE the shipping.

Next time, send this via PM

If you read it right, I was explaining for what you had commented about. If it looks like an attitude problem, then you need to look it over. I was clearly stating the whole idea behind placing the minor worn bearings in to save up for the kit if that was the problem.

I never said 100% that he did not, I just gave my opinion for someone purchasing and installing a USED clutch.

Again, they had MINOR wear and were installed to see if it cured the problem. And, not only to see if they cured the problem, but if they did the intentions were for them to be in for less than 2 weeks, enough time to collect on some cash to purchase the rod bearing kit, then removed in place of new bearings.

Some people do not have $65 lying around like some do. Obviously, the guy whose SHO needed the bearing replacement damn well did not have the money, nor the time to be waiting. $65 may NOT be "a lot" of money to you, or others, but for some it is.

If it's so stupid, or I am, explain to me your reason(s) under the circumstances in which this situation had and what the owner wanted. You don't want to know what kind of stuff happens in mechanic shops.....

Well, that's good and shipping is CHEAP, NOT a lot of money. You could probably ship 10 for NOT a lot of money, like $65.

Come on guys, there is no need of anymore BS. If you want to argue do it with a PM or email. Don't do it here!
Back on topic please.

If you can't get one from Josh or Mike go to your local Advance and get a BCA kit #614118 (BEARING & SLEEVE KIT) for $15.99. Autozone carries the same TOB under that number but their price is over $30. If you don't have an Advance near you Autozone will often do price matches.

This kit inculdes the quill sleeve but you'll need to get some of the green sleeve retainer stuff. It should be cheap enough where you can afford one of those new. It really is the best idea to use a new one if at all possible. That kit doesn't come with the nylon pin IIRC so make sure you get something to fasten the TOB to the fork. (I wouldn't re-use the old one as they are very brittle.) Also, do not put any grease the quill sleeve.

Ditto on the plastic pin, I used safety wire, Jason uses a zip tie.

Have your flywheel resurfaced if you can...only like 25 bucks.

Dont forget the blue loctite on the pressure plate bolts and flywheel bolts. This is not a job you want to repeat. I dont know what was said before about the used clutch, but you could just buy a new disk for 120 bucks, resuse the pressure plate and you will be better off. You see, it is a PITA to take this all apart only to have to do it again. Took me 2 days and several cuts and bruises to do it. Dont want to do that again for 80k minimum.
