To sieze or not to sieze, that is the question

I'm looking for opinions on whether or not to apply anti-sieze lubricant to the spark plug threads. My internet search proves unconclusive. This is what I learned

1) Always use lubricant to ensure spark plugs can be removed later.

2) Never use lubricant because the plugs may become over torqued.

I have never used it in the past and have never had a problem removing plugs.

Your thoughts?

I've never used anti-seize on spark plugs, and some even come with them. It always seemed to me that the anti-seize would hinder the spark plug's ground path, and increase the chance for a misfire.

I'm sure someone else will have a different opinion than me, but I say no anti-seize.

Always use anit-seize grease on the spark plug threads in an aluminum head. Always.

Markus,

You would only have to deal with a sparkplug that has become siezed in an aluminum head once to know that anti sieze compound is a MUST.

The two different metals will become welded due to "galvonic corrosion".

If you are concerned about electrical conductivity you can use a compound called Kopper Shield. You should be able to find it at auto parts stores.

If not, go to www.eastwoods.com. They sell it. It is about $9 for a small bottle, but it is great for electrical connections, and has anti-sieze properties.

Like the man said, "ALWAYS use an anti-sieze compound on spark plus that are going into an aluminum head" ALWAYS! rangerj

The metal washer and metal-to-metal thread contact provide all the electrical conductivity needed for a zero resistance circuit path. Anti-seize is NOT dielectric grease. It will conduct current due to its high metallic content.
